"Canyon Coaster" in Red Deer? Who knew that even existed? You see those in European villages and such......gotta check it out....

First we had 3 Spa proposals pre-COVID…..now we’re back to having 2! I’ll take it! “Overlooking the River Valley,” doesn’t specify exactly “where.”

I'm a bit lazy to write why I think this is ok, but nothing to write home about.

When I get re-inspired, I will share more.

Ian, not interested in pony'ing up $50 to sit in 10 different pools of varying degrees of temperature for a day? Haven't you done this already at Canmore's Spa?

I love nordic spas, dont get me wrong, but:

1. this site was bequeathed to the UofA with one of the most architecturally significant homes in the city that was left to rot and was demo'd.
2. while a beautiful site and this will be exceptionally successful, it's tucked away in a residential neighbourhood with poor transit, poor access and if I were neighbours I would be less pleased.
3. we turned down an amazing proposal along the river outside of Fort Ed that has bus to LRT nearby, could playoff of the existing asset with a hotel that needs more support and could have maybe even put another hotel down there to really create something bigger and special.
4. we did not pursue what still is one of the most incredible proposals i've seen put forth to put a nodic spa/roman bath into the old Rossdale PP that truly could (still can be) be a much larger economic driver (5x? 10 x?), be an anchor for a greater Rossdale/riverfront development, hotel, residences, Indigenous museum/interpretive centre, restaurants/bars/patios, gondola connected, walkable, and a real catalyst.

It's not that I am against this development, but it's opportunity cost and opportunity lost.

True to all of that....but at least it's cheaper than flying to Iceland to visit their versions of this....

I love this idea of converting Rossdale Power Plant into a catalyst that the tourists, businesses and everyday Edmontonians will love. But as we all know by now, nobody can even build a clapboard outhouse near the power plant site without invoking the wrath of councillors, unions and indigenous peoples.
