I was downtown today for work. Walked by Churchill square and down to Edmonton tower. The amount of social disorder is pathetic in broad daylight. I found my self checking over my shoulder every few seconds.
Social disorder or homeless people sitting on benches, concrete planters, etc.? I also work downtown 4 days a week and bike through the 'thick' of Boyle Street on 96th and don't ever feel in danger.

To me, social disorder is someone yelling and waving something around in public for no good reason. Even someone smoking, whether it's a cigarette or straight up fent, doesn't bug me, but I get that it would bug others, but doesn't seem to be social disorder to me either.

Great analogy.

Sure the backyard works 'as is', but what have we done to spruce up the driveway as you approach the house, did we trim the grass, plant the annuals, perhaps a fresh coat of paint for the deck etc.
Why don't you email these folks exactly that?

I am a nobody Joe citizen who simply wants a higher bar for most days, let alone the NHL SCF!

Key word - citizen. If no one ever reaches out to Admin or Council, not much would happen tbh. Squeaky wheels get the grease, whether you like it or not. Complaining online won't do much - need to direct that to the proper authorities.

Actually, no, I respectfully disagree.

'Proper authorities' should take care of 'events 101'.

I'm sure ICE D will look great, but how will the rest look, feel, be reported on and experiences shared when media returns home?

It shouldn't take citizens to keep emailing council and the right people to get things done. This should be something that is part of their every day duties to be honest.

This is absolutely true but...BUT.... it's not happening so a stink should be raised. And not just about the specific issues but about the overall fact that these things are not and should be taken care of. Saying nothing and fuming on a forum isn't exactly useful (and I say this as someone who obviously routinely does it).

Yes, it is part of the job. Although, I feel it is fair to say the current bunch is not the most responsive or attentive to dealing with various problems that concern citizens.

Agreed.

Complacency seems to have crept into some of their job descriptions.

I did a small loop of 103st to stationlands once back to valley line.

3 different screaming insane people, 1 OD getting nax from paramedics, 4+ groups of 6 or more laying around blocking sidewalks and doing drugs. Multiple gang members on corners.

So much work to do.

I don't feel that Edmonton is unique in having problems with social disorder and trying to deal with them. Probably anyone visiting here from a large city in North America is not as phased by this as we might think.

I am downtown every day and walk around almost every day. There are good days when you do not notice or hardly see anything, there are other days when there are lots of problems and they seem to occur randomly.

Great shots of Edmonton as the start city of Amazing Race Canada tonight.

And Edmonton team represented by Oilers Superfan and his partner.
