It's happening! They have punched a hole through that raised rail bed and are placing the pieces. Working 24hr shifts to get it done. I am told it should be done by Monday am. Very exciting! 🥰

But did they really need to clear-cut such a big parking lot for the operation? The drone shots really emphasize the scar on the landscape.
While it's true, if there's one thing that the Don Valley has been good at its fixing its scars quickly.

Also, that's a heck of a long tunnel to go under just a single track.
If I didn't know any better, the tunnel is long enough to isolate the entire Metrolinx property from property line to property line, not just the limited right-of-way used by the trains.

Tuesday night ride and at the end came at the tunnel from the north. Met a guy there who had already been through, and did so myself. It's not open but the fences have been open by trail users.
A few crew from rail companies and construction companies were on site on the south side monitoring things.

Such a great connection! Can't wait to see the trail teams complete the works on the rest of the route. The temporary construction bridge will need to come out which will take some time.

We ventured up the East Don Trail today from the south. As shown earlier the temporary construction bridge is still in place south of the rail line

The tunnel was fenced off and the signage spoke of fresh concrete. It looked pretty dry to us but we obeyed the signage. (The sub-text is "It will ruin your bike tires".)

Clearly opening day is getting closer, if not imminent.
