We went to inspect today...

Starting at the Forks, we got up to Bermondsey Road and as noted above the trail is newly paved northwards from the temporary bridge, through the new tunnel and onwards. Apart from a couple of rather steep sections, it's a great ride and (until you reach the Bermondsey Transfer Station (!!) very 'countrylike' -

These shots are in order going home from Bermondsey towards the new tunnel.... it's very 'country' with a touch of heavy metal!

Do you mean it's paved now all the way from the turnoff from the Taylor Creek Trail?

No, the southern section from Taylor Creek trail/The Forks is NOT paved as far as the temporary (twinned") bridge. As discussed above by others, the theory here is that they need to keep working southwards and not operate heavy machinery on freshly paved sections. They are clearly ready to connect the permanannt bridge and remove the temporary one and then pave the rest. Not long now, I would say.

Right. I thought the temporary bridge you were referring to was the big one leading off from Taylor Creek.

Today's ride took me along the East Don Trail from Bermondsey to the Forks, inspired by @DSCToronto's photos to see the new bridge for myself.

I've captured it before from above with my drone but up close it's on a whole other level. The engineering and design are truly impressive.

Photos don't do it justice, you have to be there.

Did you do a loop? That's a good sized ride.

Thanks for asking! I rode from home (Kingston Rd and McCowan) up to Scarborough General Hospital to pick up the Meadoway. First time riding the Meadoway westbound. Lovely.

The only complaint would be that short section along Eglinton to Bermondsey. Would prefer a protected cycle track.

There have been loads of wonderful photos of the East Don Trail posted here, so I didn't see the need to add. However, it is surprisingly serene and natural, so here is one more.

From the Forks I rode Taylor Creek back eastbound. Beautiful.

The loop was 30 km and took me 2.5 hours (but I stopped a few times for photos / launch the drone).

It did make me think that we owe thanks to whoever had the foresight and vision for the Meadoway / East Don Trail.

It's going to be an amazing cycle route to downtown for those of us in the east end.

Stay tuned regarding the Eglinton to Bermondsey stretch of The Meadoway. Will need to follow up with City for updated timelines, but the last I heard was construction starting late this year or early next year. Fingers crossed.

That sounds great. So is it time to update the official cycling map?

I can confirm this......

Next year seems slightly more likely.

I was saving this as a good news story...... LOL....

Tried the trail today. There was heavy equipment at work on the trail, so had to turn back. It's good to know that the finishing work is progressing.
Yes, they really only have paving and removal of the temporary bridge and OUGHT to be working on both. Weekends have been worker-less except when the tunnel below GO was put in.

Would have been great to get photos of the activity in progress. Do you know where exactly along the trail (e.g. Forks of the Don or Bridge 2) this work was happening?

Been meaning to check things out again soon, as well as the work being done on the new trail south of Don Mills and Gateway.
