A great spot for tactical urban gardening!

Buy a little fence for the perimeter. Get some soil in there. Plant some hardy perennials!

We need a boulevard gardening volunteer program like Vancouver has. Much of their west end is planted and cared for by residents. Almost like community gardens, but for non edible plants.

Some small grants/resources to help provide dirt/tools/plants would be cool!
Saw this all over NYC last year and couldn’t agree more. It adds so much using so little

Confirmed:
Heard a rumor CIBC commerce place is moving from that location to Ice District or near the arena. Plans to move in January

The more units downtown, the better. Downtown's future is definitely going to be a financial and entertainment district with a disproportional amount of residential buildings (and hopefully unique retail) like Vancouver.

With the Financial Building conversion going on, we have around 359 residential units currently under construction, not counting all the proposed projects that might happen soon.

Phipps McKinnon Conversion - 100 units
Lotus Park - 136 units
Williams Hall - 90 units
Financial Building Conversion - 33 units
Total: 359 units

Yes, there are also several new buildings completed recently being filled now, some more than may happen and additional student housing proposed.

The Churchill (100st/103Ave) had been vacant for quite a while. It was sold and redone inside and then started leasing up late spring and is more than 3/4 full now (about 180 unit building give or take). More people downtown!

Was in Kelowna last week and it reminded me that we really, REALLY need to revise light timing in the core. Almost all of their lights are 15-20 sec (other than 97) and it just makes things feel more urban, safe and honestly has decent flow.

Yesterday I jaywalked numerous times as places like 105st/103ave and 104st//100ave have 45? 1 min? timings for rush hour to help those poor cars get out of the core, versus us pedestrians to move about efficiently and safely.

Some roads downtown are too wide that it makes it difficult for people to walk across the intersection in 15-20 seconds. Put some road diets in and I'm with you. But better timing is needed and improvements can be made.

I will take credit for the improvement at 116st and 102Ave. It used to be 60seconds or longer to accomodate car traffic north/south. And it's a short walk across 116st that people and bikes would go when it was open because waiting so long. I contacted city, they came out, investigated and now that light changes every 30 seconds or so. So much better for walking (and biking as well).

I always find it impressive how the signals always seem to be in the process of changing to red as I approach them while cycling. Must have to do with the average speed or something. It's just annoying most of the time, but having to wait several minutes standing still in the elements in -20 winter weather or the +30 degrees we're currently in really sucks and makes you feel second-class.
