It is true we are the dumping ground for Alberta's social problems . So Cartmell, I feel is just restating what has already been pointed out by others. Part of the problem is the Alberta government, his UCP friends.

I don't think he can force them to give us more money and it has been pointed out by civic leaders a number of times already how provincial lack of funding has contributed to various problems.

As for the Federal part of it, I feel Cartmell has even less sway with them. So does he have some unique insight or ability to fix crime in Edmonton, I would say no.

The city had to keep asking 'multiple' times for having funding restored for grants in lieu of taxes for provincial buildings. Do you think that would have happened if we had said boo?Sohi wrote column in Journal and multiple social media posts by council. And he brought it up in news stories on radio etc.

So somebody has to keep the pressure on and highlight issue and I hope all city candidates do so.

I also wrote recently to premier, and safety minister and mental health minister. Need public to put pressure on.

This was also supported by regional nonprofits, particularly the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce to my understanding. All for nothing when the Province pulls the rug on municipal revenues by banning photo radar.

I'm certainly not defending the province. I'm advocating to put pressure on them to act. Takes collective action.

Downtown liquor is where I go for some nice craft beers, more often than not there is still abhorrent activity going on on the stairs down to the lrt in that location in the middle of a nice day at that. I have been and will continue to report these deadbeats causing issues.
Last time just about 2 weeks ago a group were smoking meth and fent and yelling at the connivence store owners when asked to smoke outside. Junkies response "We get free money from the government, you are stupid for working a job" yeah that's the gist of it.

These were all people in their early 20s, no excuse for pathetic behavior like that.

Sounds like someone tagged the crap out of the mural at Alex D Park, along with the green shack.

Grrr
The good news the green shack is fine this is the bad news.

Ban spray cans from sale? This shit used to drive me nuts until you've been to NY or CHI - obviously those places on another level.....but still.....I fail to see the point in this? I presume the tagger on this particular mural is trying to "convince his/her followers that he/she painted the mural? These people have followers on TikTok and they are considered "content creators?"

I'm like 99.5% sure the tagger is not trying to convince people that they made the mural.

To tag a mural is bad, but it feels a bit "old man yells at cloud" to be reflexively anti-graffiti (or at least to think of graffiti as a crisis that needs to be addressed). I was just in Chicago, Berlin, and Dresden (Neustadt) over the last month, and those are all (1) better cities than Edmonton and (2) have vastly more graffiti. Not that the graffiti is what makes them great, but it certainly doesn't make them noticeably worse.

It would be better if our graffiti artists had more talent, though.

Referring to whom?

Well, I don't know if it refers to you because I don't know your take on graffiti. But there's no shortage of moral panic about it.
