I only just went there last week, asked a simple question that befuddled the dude and had me wondering if was speaking proper sentences. Paid too much for a smoothie that turned out to be horrible. Will not be missed

District Pizza getting rid of their dine in seating and going online orders only

Interesting. They were pick up only prior to expanding into that space with the dining area. Guess they’re back to their roots.

Soulpepper Theatre is really branching out and engaging the community to fill a real need in this emerging neighbourhood. More later but the facility is getting a lot more use and the Fringe Festival is using it as a hub so expect interesting ‘meanwhile’ use of some surrounding spaces (looking at you T3 Bayside!). A counterpoint to the Xmas season.

Is there a replacement tenant for this space? If not, I hope the Distillery does something to make it look better for the summer, and uses it as a patio or something like that. It's like a big ugly hole in the middle of the district now just as peak season approaches.
That sucks - wasn't that the chocolate place?

I believe that it is going into a retail unit on Cherry in the Cherry Street Diner building.
I thought someone said Cherry House, which is the chunka building across the street and along Front.

Also, the Distillery Restaurant Group runs District Pizza and Jardin, and are remodelling the space. Into what, I dunno. But awhile back I think there was a permit in place for a “Caesar Bar” that failed to go through. Will it make a return? Who can say.

I believe that I read Canary House in Retail Insider but will check.

Retail insider and 6ix say Canary district with Jo building specified. Wish someone would just pull the trigger on a Harvey’s/Wendys/Burger King

Obviously that won’t happen in the distillery, but keeping the “independent” flavour here just means $20 appetizers and a push on booze

Every area seemingly has their "cursed" spot for retail.
The thing I have to wonder about this space… it originated as a Fresh & Wild that went to Mill st.

Then they cut it in half. Mill st became Beer Store, back half a convenience store/cafe.

Then they leased to Cacao 70 who seemed to do brisk business up until the parent company went under. At that point the Greg’s ice cream left, and they’d built our District Pizza, eventually turning the original space into Jardin.

So DRC owns or has an incredibly favourable long term lease with 33 Mill for the commercial spaces. They’re playing with their own money now.

District Pizza’s seating area seemed to be busy, but whether they were making enough to warrant it is another question. Jardin’s concept was a loser from day one.

Personally, I’d say open DP’s seating into the Jardin space. Make it modern Canadian, and curate products from the Spacing Store with dine in from DP. Toss in some vending machines that extend into the hallway/foyer. Done. Winner.
