Where's Chicago Mayor Richard Daley when you need him?



He would have just reopened the path and given notice to Mx that it was open now, too bad they were late.

Or if he was feeling generous, City crews would have done the fencing without permission and he would have sent Mx the bill.

For those unfamiliar with Daley, he was a better to ask for forgiveness that wait on permission kinda guy.

Famously, he really wanted to close Chicago's downtown airport but was having difficulty getting the required support from other governments to do so, he trumped up an 'emergency' and sent City crews in overnight one night to rip up the runway without permission.

He stranded a few planes and caused more than a little consternation.

We could also probably start a pool on how many weeks/months it will be before motorists realise that the "New Esplanade' will be one-way westbound between Church and Scott!

By "motorists", are you including "Waze", "Google", and other way finding apps?

Judging by the fact that I still occasionally see cars on the Queens Quay dedicated bike path, I would say that 10yrs+ is a reasonable estimate.

This may have been covered here or elsewhere, as I don't follow Mississauga all that closely.

But that City is building a new pedestrian/cycling bridge across the Credit river beside the Metrolinx-owned LSW rail corridor.

Construction should just be starting and should wrap by the end of 2026.

As I understand it, this will create a trail connection from Front St on the west side of the river to Stavebank on the east.

Thanks, I was hoping someone would provide photographic evidence and I could stay home sipping coffee in my jammies!.

There seems to be no sign of any repaving the badly deteriorated areas or, of course, the barriers that MAY stop cars parking on the track! I suspect we are not getting any repairs and that the barriers will appear in the next day or so.

I biked a good length of the Bloor lane on Sunday at around 7:30, and the number of food couriers on motorcycles in the bike lanes was quite astounding. Just because they're electric doesn't mean you can ride your motorcycle/moped in the bike lane!

(But police enforcement should still stick to cars. Car drivers are the ones injuring/maiming people every day, not electric motorcycles in the bike lanes.)

Some of the 'electric bikes' are quite heavy pieces of machinery and they go fast. They could and do cause significant injury. Michael Longfield from CycleTO presented to IEC on a micromobility item last week and showed a handful of examples of bikes that are in this weird grey area of legality in Toronto bike lanes or cycle tracks. Some of the examples were obvious to people in the know, but some others weren't. He also had this slide, which provided some good perspective. My parents just bought a compact SUV and even that weighs 3000 lb (1360 kg)

Specific to the cycling infrastructure, it feels like council keeps painting themselves into a corner with stuff like keeping e-scooters prohibited and creating a way too complicated system that isn't even enforced of who is and isn't allowed to use types of bike lanes. I mean seriously, who is going to remember THIS. The "Tricycle" in the first row isn't even one, it's an urban arrow cargo bike with two wheels. Embarrassing

No, I'm just surprised at the explosion of the numbers of those heavier (and quite expensive!) electric motorcycles/mopeds over the last 2-3 years. I assume most of them are financed through programs sponsored by the food courier companies.

7. 3 U-turns east to west
8. 2 Beers consumed on the patio
9. 1 U-turn west to east
10. 1 Rollerblader
11. 0 dog treats. Unplanned survey. Sorry Lola.

I’ve been doing an inventory of bikeway renewals and looks like Havelock (College to Bloor) and Brunswick (Lowther to Bloor) are done.

Road renewals done with sharrows only include MacDonell (Wabash to Wright) and Haldon Ave
