It would be smart if transportation services took the budget allocated for quick-build projects unable to move forward due to Bill 212 for at least the next few years and instead just focused on building nice cycle tracks like these and beautified existing ones instead.

Some of that is coming for sure.

Danforth will get a glow-up east of Main next year. (new permanent planters in spots, raised cycle tracks at bus stops, and raised crosswalks on side streets), among other things.

Kipling will see new boulevard cycle tracks; I'm hopeful for Bathurst as well.

Not sure if there's a separate thread for general trails discussion, but I recently reviewed the 2012 Bikeway Trails Implementation Plan to find out which projects has been completed since then and what's still outstanding after thirteen years.

Good summation of where we're at....

Although many elements of it are covered through the different documents you note, John Tory's 'Loop Trail' commitment is another one not yet delivered.

There's also the Green Line proposal through mid-town which is being partially delivered, more as walking path than MUT...but I digress....

The City, with WT is also looking at more for the Etobicoke Waterfront, the balance of the 'Below the Bluffs' Scarborough Waterfront Trail, and a few other odds n' sods.

One they are not looking at, that makes sense to me is Highland Creek - Markham Branch through Scarborough City Centre and on to Centennial College and Military Trail.

There are also bit of 'above the Bluffs' Scarborough WT, that could be delivered, some require land acquisition but I'm focused on areas where that is not the case or is minimal.

Thanks for reminding me about that West Scarborough Bluffs Project. I updated the post to note it was part of the TRCA Trail Strategy map.

I didn't mention the "Loop Trail" because it's really a combination of other trails that were previously identified, though getting that completed would be huge. As for the Green Line, I'm not sure about prioritizing that as a cycling trail given the nearby Davenport bike lanes, but it's still a decent form of public space.

I was cycling on BAYVIEW today and it LOOKS as though the steel they have been waiting for to build the stairs/ramp from Dundas to the Lower Don Trail has arrived. Large trailer with steel parked on the trail. Could they actually be working on finishing off this work???
As nobody posted photos I was wondering if my optimistic side had taken control and had been wrong but I peered over the Dundas St bridge today to see work is ongoing!

I checked out the redesign Hamilton did of the Westdale and Ainslie Wood neighborhoods that abuts McMaster University today and I’m really impressed, I hope it can serve as a model for the rest of the city. Here’s the Sterling Street entrance through what is effectively the Eastern “student ghetto”. Segregated bike lanes and a brand new grassy median.

The Southern Emerson entrance to campus. A new crossride with bike signalling- this will also the the site of the Western Hamilton LRT terminus. South of there is a two lane segregated cycle track that ties into the area’s rail trail network.

The area is heavily served by the city's bike share and is now included as part of the undergraduate fees negotiated by the Student Union.

For those of you who don't read Councillor Dianne Saxe's newsletter, there are a couple of pieces of good news related to Avenue Road.

5. Construction is underway for the Avenue Road Safety Coalition’s long-awaited pedestrian crossing of Avenue Road at Ramsden Park. The crossing includes permanent concrete bump-outs on both sides of Avenue Road where pedestrians can wait safely for a chance to cross the road. The lights should be operational in October. This crossing will lead directly to the new entrance to Ramsden Park, scheduled to be built next year. Putting pedestrian safety first in this way is only possible because last year we returned Avenue Road to four traffic lanes from Dupont to Bloor.

8. Traffic monitoring confirms that installing bike lanes on Avenue Road between Davenport and Bloor has improved safety for both cyclists and pedestrians without increasing travel times for motorists, except that illegal speeding has been reduced.

Believe this is one of the coming soon bike lanes on Esplanade.

This has been discussed for several months on both this thread and the St Lawrence one. This 'stub' has been here since early summer but, apart from some recently installed (bagged) signage at Scott (which seems to confirm The Esplanade will be one way westbound from Church to Scott) and putting up new traffic lights with cycling sub-lights at The Esplanade and Church. this project is in some sort of limbo state. The City Cycling Team who used to be fantastic at communications seem to have gone silent too.

The most recent Construction Notice still says all will be done by June 30!

Just sent an e-mail to the City requesting an updated timeline. I know there were some bylaw amendments approved back in July, but agree the lack of communication is concerning to say the least.

They will be paving the Green P entrance on The Esplanade near Yonge St. and opening up the completed west half of the renovated parking garage very soon.
The extra by-pass sewer work on Scott St. at the Esplanade has not started for some reason. Delayed start twice. No new date.
CIBC Square Yonge St. entrance surface work is close to finishing too. They will need new lights there too. I imagine all these stars need to align for the bike lane to be completed and the real confusion and non compliant users to start. Maybe just in time for the Leafs, Raptors, Jays playoffs and more people back to work.
Never a good time. If they wait until the spring, the Leafs will win the cup!

Cycle Toronto just issued their own action alert for Eglinton, as well as announced their "Rally and Ride for Eglinton" happening on Thursday, September 11 (6 PM) at Eglinton and Holly.

From the Scott St pumping project PM today.

“The project has been delayed for a variety of reasons of which the most notable has been due to the conflicting timelines of other projects like the new Esplanade bike lanes.

As I hope you can appreciate, we can't have multiple contractors working in close proximity.
There are still some logistics that need to be sorted out, but our Scott Street Phase 2 project will likely begin this October.

Expected end date for our project will be the Spring of 2026.”

My thoughts:
We lifted a generator which closed Scott and The Esplanade recently.

Maybe the bike lanes could still be completed before October?
Green P first?
Bike lanes 2nd?
CIBC traffic lights 3rd?
Scott and Front St traffic lights would probably be activated at that time too?
Scott St pumping station 4th in October?
We shall see.
