Per Councillor Amber Morley's latest e-newsletter, construction on the Etobicoke Creek Trail under the QEW could start this fall and be finished by late Spring 2026.

Let me bring the TRCA Aerial with notations forward:

We won't discuss how long this has been in the works......... it would be kind of embarrassing for all involved.

I'm not throwing any one person or dept under the proverbial bus.............but its been around a long time.

Full credit to whoever gave it a swift kick to get it moving again.

Edit to add:

This link will have trail reach from the Lake to Sherway Drive. It is fairly feasible, from there, to get to the Queensway, which is the next logical priority.

The section north of that is much more challenging due to topography and more extensive private landownership as well.

Has there been anything new on the footbridge to Orchard Heights park in Mississauga? I find that connection to be a no-brainer, especially once the path under the QEW opens.

The bridge was spiked by Councillor Stephen Dasko, due to opposition by a handful of Nimbys in the Orchard Heights Residents Association.

You might want to take that up w/him. Good luck on that. (seriously)

To be fair they have likely been waiting for MTO to wrap up their work on the QEW Etobicoke Creek bridge replacement, which only had final project close out last fall, IIRC.

I have to laugh at people's hyperbole.........its not unique to NIMBYs....

Really?

Every other area has one......... I mean I supposed all of North York has one, because of the Leaside Spur Trail......

But if that's the standard..............then.....this:

must count for all of Scarborough........ its the Upper Rouge Trail, today..........but it was a railway spur.

I rode on that path three years ago. It would be an essential part of the Scarborough Loop consisting of The Meadoway, Finch Hydro Corridor, and the Don River trails. Wished they could extend the Finch Hydro Corridor east of Middlefield and west of Pharmacy, though the latter was flagged as a study expected in the 2025-27 bike plan.

Staff have spent some preliminary time on some of this.

Getting across 404 is a big issue. But it can be done, its just $$$

In the east, getting the trail to Tapscott is easy (ish)....

East of Tapscott is the currently low-use, but active Havelock Rail sub, this is tentatively the future HSR (high speed rail) corridor which would necessitate grade separation.

After that, its a short jaunt to Morningside, which is likely where you would bring the trail down. To provide room in the ROW, the current landscaped median would likely have to be removed:

You'll likely being seeing more of this in the weeks ahead: (Dupont Complete Street project)

Can you share this on some of the other socials like Reddit (/r/torontobiking), Bluesky, Facebook (Cycling in Toronto group), etc.? I know not all #BikeTO folks will check the Urban Toronto forums. ;)

Not entirely surprised about this hold up which also happened in Mississauga with their Bloor Street Redesign.

I'm not currently on any of those.

However, the information is public, and the image above is a modest sized screenshot, so feel free to share away.

There is 1 thing i hope the study solves is the north south dirt path right beside the tennis court. Its heavily used, muddy and not very easy to use. Especially when it rains
that path is there to justify me riding a wide knobby tired bike! I do love flying over it (but mostly when it's dry)

Interestingly and predictably, they have installed a raised TTC stop on the new bike section on The Esplanade just west of Market Street. Of course, the TTC cancelled this stop last year so it will be unused! Useless, confusing AND expensive. Those darned silos!!!
I stand corrected (by the Cycling Folk). The raised area just west of Market Street is for Wheeltrans etc loading. A good idea as the neighbouring buildings have many seniors.

They also have buildings with wheelchair users, the bike lane will be right in front of their buildings and will obstruct those with mobility issues, not just seniors. The bike lanes are not cleared of snow which means that in the winter cyclists will use the roadway. A clear roadway is much more adaptable for a variety of users, a 3 season lane not as flexible.
