In all seriousness, good to see the Feds and province working together, compromising and finding common ground.
 
With the price of oil ballooning, the revenue provided from royalties will be a lifeline for a lot of the country I bet, so I think this makes sense.
Classic Canadian Prime Minister objectives:

Keep Quebec (and in this case Alberta) in; Keep the Americans out; Keep the bankers at bay.

Surprised there’s no talk of a new refinery or two in Canada. Or maybe there is and I just haven’t heard it. Either way, good news about the pipeline though.

Consumers tend to prefer to own their own refinery to retain strategic optionality. Plus it is a great business to be in if all you have is location and rule of law to your advantage (hello Singapore). Because of that, the refinery capacity market tends to be oversupplied.

Then you have that you're running the spread between two sets of commodities, which don't always sync up, for an ultimate product that can expire.

Its a hard business! and way easier to do somewhat near to the end consumers.
