First off it’s pretty, second, oh god I can hear the Windsor Park NIMBYs screaming right now.

Any chance Westrich can slap down something like this downtown in the future?
Question we all have: does this jeopardize Grandin #2’s future? Are we relegated to only wooden 5 storey’s for DT and now the suburbs are stealing DT’s high rises?

Firstly, WOW! I really like this design and I'm excited to see how 87th ave is gonna feel after this is done construction.

Secondly, did you guys purchase the Mormon school on the corner? Because it appears that this tower will encompass the entire corner of 87th ave and 116th street. If so that's awesome!

Thirdly, I wish you and the Westrich team luck with the massive pushback that'll no doubt come shortly from Windsor Park. I wonder what Councilor Michael Janz's position will be on this development in all honesty, with having to bridge the gap between his pro-urban development policies and platform and having to hear the concerns of his ward's residents regarding this tower.
It seems the low-rise aspect of the Podium will be north of the Tower, not to the east where the Mormon school is.

I hope not, but with how fast the new rentals are getting filled up and lower interest rates, I think some interest will stay no matter what.

I'd surmise that 90% are against it....so does this hinder it's chances of being built?

87th Avenue is/has been a major thoroughfare and the tower is replacing a strip mall with reduced-scale elements adjacent to the residential neighbourhood. Adjacent to a major university with several mid+ rise towers within a stone's throw. I would guess that it has a 90% chance of passing. I am going to borrow some funds from @Gronk! to place a bet that it clears Council.

The corner school site is not part of this particular development, no; west of the lane going north only.

We look forward to hearing more about this proposal from the community and others who may wish to share so that we can be responsive to community input.

It's hard reading through those comments.

I bet many of the people opposing 25 stories as being "out of scope" were also in opposition to the mid-rise buildings there now. And, to a large extent, it's past opposition to middle housing and a lack of upzoning that has led directly to the need to build high rises across many Canadian cities (it's obviously not just an Edmonton phenomenon). I'm also willing to bet many of them were against the cities revamped zoning laws (which I still believe don't go far enough).

I'll never understand these people's need to keep their neighborhoods absolutely, completely devoid of vitality.
Something akin to Stepford Wives syndrome or mind stuck on a Norman Rockwell '50s painting of life in the slow lane. In my U of A days I remember attending some West Indies' parties that were neighborhood inclusive in Windsor Park and always ended with a police presence -- I guess they're afraid of returning to those days. If past is prelude a bunch of those residences are probably still party houses.
