There really seems to be little effort here to keep the character of a unique historic building here. Whoever did this should be ashamed of themselves and whoever let them also.
I thought they were just adding a garage? I mean, clearly something is going on with the exterior but my impression was that it would come out looking mostly the same.

Yes, the picture looks concerning, but perhaps it does not accurately reflect what is being done. I wish they keep the older style window that went with the structure instead of more modern ones.

If it was just adding a garage while not changing the exterior to the existing structure I would be ok with that.

I believe so. 16 DUs in the bi-level split apartments on the corner, maybe 20ish from the red vinyl low-rise?

There's almost no way this can be anything short of massive intensification, since it's going from rear-lot parking to underground parking. Ballpark 300-400% more units.
