Clearly YRT has very few riders to spread its costs over, and it has very few riders, because it has crappy service.
Not along Jane apparently, even on Saturdays:

Yeah, sure, Jane's ridership is mostly because of good service, not so much the fact that it serves Vaughan Mills, VMC, and York U.Jane has among the best service levels in the YRT system. Only Yonge would be a serious rival, I think {I'm not checking, so take that as the intuitive guess that it is); but I think this image serves to demonstrate my point, not take way from it.
Run good service, get more riders.
The TTC 129A McCowan north is also pretty busy since one fare program was introduced now that riders don’t pay two ares anymore.
Not a factor on that November day.Canada's Wonderland too.
Did they switch to New flyer for the 2026 Viva order?A little late to the party for the 20'th anniversary of VIVA. At the time it felt like a revelation, providing a spine that the rest of the YRT network could connect through. Though 20 years has shown that VIVA only cannibalized funds from other services.
VIVA looked great as a concept and looks great superficially but in the end failed to produce the increased ridership it's proponents claimed it would have.

I saw one out for training. It has this strange reflective paint.Yes they did
I would probably pin this more on the demographics. Most people in the 905 would prefer either subways or their suv.A little late to the party for the 20'th anniversary of VIVA. I wouldn't say this at all. A large percentage of Toronto households are car-free, and many many more are 1-car households compared to York Region. The vast majority of TTC users have access to a car. So car ownership and a suburban built form aren't necessarily a deterrent to high transit use. Viva/YRT's problem is the poor level of service in terms of frequency and signal priority.
