YRT is planning to increase #2 service on Saturdays and Sundays in 2026. I agree that YRT should also add an additional bus to #2 on weekday evenings to bring down the headway from every 53 mins to every 35 mins.

To add, the last #2 bus on weekdays leaves Finch Station at 11:16pm which is quite early.

I’ve sent god only knows how many emails (and I’ve asked my friends to do the same) explaining how this just doesn’t make any sense. Most events finish at 11pm in downtown….at the very least they could delay this bus or just add an additional bus after midnight and call it a day.

Who have you sent those emails to?

If you're sending them to customer service, its not that its a bad idea, but they just get forwarded on to decision makers within YRT, who are not boat rockers, and will generally only consider requests that are within existing policy and budget.

If you have not, you need to communicate directly with your Councillor, those who who oversee YRT (as pols and senior most Execs) and the York Region Chair.

Well that plastic seat trial didn’t last long. Looks like they’re testing padded vinyl seats (same type as Vancouver) on a Viva artic. Saw it in Richmond Hill earlier this week.

I just rode a New Flyer Electric TTC with all-plastic seats this week. Incredibly uncomfortable.

I’ve gotten used to them after a year riding a bunch in Durham. But I would still prefer fabric or vinyl give a choice.

The vinyl on the test bus was plain blue, but I kinda wish they’d used a vinyl with the same pattern as the existing Viva fabric. It’s possible as some agencies in California have this. But I guess it costs more, so we won’t see that here.

Get after them APTA. I know you can be persuasive!

The Toronto Indy is moving to Markham, specifically to the Unionville Station parking lot. According to the organizers:

With excellent regional access via two major 400-series highways, Unionville GO Station, and the VIVA Rapid Transit system, the new Markham circuit is ideally situated to welcome fans from across Southern Ontario and beyond.

Except they're closing the streets that Viva Purple runs on, as well as Unionville Station's bus terminal. So I'm not sure how helpful the VIVA Rapid Transit system is for actually getting people to the race.

PS maybe their 'maple leaf' theme would be more convincing if they bothered to provide info in a unit of measure we actually use in Canada. 180 mph is 290 km/h and 2.19 miles is 3.5 km.

Even if they weren't, to call the appalling levels of service run on the Stouffville line and VIVA Purple as "excellent regional access" is some next level propaganda!

I also wonder if Metrolinx will finish upgrades to the Stouffville Corridor in time for better than hourly two-way service -- particularly the Highland Creek bridge. That's the only transit that's going to be viable. I suspect attendees will be encouraged to park at Mount Joy and Centennial stations and take the train in. (Not a lot of parking at Markham).

Though the claim is that the new location puts the event closer to its fans, I'm not at all convinced. It's farther from the more populated West GTA and Hamilton, and transit access is much poorer. But it will have the cars racing past a Honda dealership on Kennedy Road.

i think they will put a temp bus loop to drop people right in front of the entrance. dont forget guys the track itself isnt the boundary of the proposed venue there will be gates beyond the track.
