Have you ever talked with someone from the Upper Middle Class? Most of them absolutely don't believe that HSR is a waste of time or money. Like you say that as if VIA is a form of transit for "the common folk" when I'd very much argue that its not. VIA's ticket pricing even on the corridor are so high that they generally price out lower income residents.

There is no reason to believe this is true.

You have already been told off on this exact issue in another thread. Please stop.

The funding is not in limbo.

Yes, I'm sure.

The tender closes January 28th, 2025.

There is zero chance a new government is sworn in prior to that.

Less fortunate people are more likely to take a coach bus rather than a train between Toronto- Montreal.

Agreed. Trains are transit for the wealthy.

The next argument from these FUD mongers is that public flights are for poor people because the the wealthy only fly on private jets.

Meanwhile at union station this train is so dirty that it looks like another livery. Via really needs to do a better job with vehicle cleanliness. This is not a couple trips worth of dirt. Looks like they havnt washed this train in weeks

Trains get usually washed when they visit a maintenance centre, which should be at least every two weeks…

It's dead.

As soon as a non-confidence vote is called in March/April and the government falls, it's officially dead.

There's a 0% chance the Conservatives would carry through with this initiative.

I'll provide an optimistic and I know some here will say naive comment.

Maybe the CPC will see investing in a clean and electric mobility option as an alternative to the carbon tax. They have said they believe they can address environmental concerns through investing in technology.

Also, even if the current government announces the procurement winner, there is still a co-development phase. The CPC government may wait to see what the final estimated cost could be through that process. There are also some CPC seats it'll run through.

Finally, their members on a parliamentary committee didn't come right out against the project and I believe said they notionally support HSR. I think a motion was adopted at their convention to say the same. In other words, at this juncture, could be worse.

Every 2 or 3 days for every trainset is how the current cycling looks.

I do recall hearing (or reading) that the TMC wash rack was out of order due to the work going on for the new PM bays this past summer. That may still be the case, and thus be part of the issue, as not every single train cycles through to MMC.

Use the GO wash track?

Getting there and back there might be substantially less trivial than it sounds to someone who has never gotten closer to railroad operations exposure than watching railroad operations on a 1:87 scale…
I know there is plenty I'm unaware of but it's funny seeing how they're a few tracks over from each other

I mean if there's money and support in it for them, why would they kill it.

You need a crew, you need to figure out a routing (with reversing moves), you need to ensure the compatibility of the equipment to be washed, you need to negotiate a time and a price with Metrolinx. Much simpler to swap cycles and route it through MMC to get it its well-deserved wash (or to just wash it manually, if it’s that urgent)…

And separated by a 4 track mainline that sees trains every 4 to 15 minutes for much of the day.

Oh, and no direct connection. Trains have to run all the way to Gardiner (past Park Lawn) before changing directions.

When GO runs over to grab equipment at the TMC, it takes them 20 minutes just to get there - so at least a 40 minute round trip. Plus factoring in the 20-ish minutes to get to, through, and back from the wash. And the trains still need to be fueled, have the insides cleaned and restocked. Considering a lot of the trains are only at the TMC for a couple of hours, there just really isn't much time to send them over to get washed at Willowbrook.
