It's really how construction are the growing pains of the city, and in this case, Marigold would rather have a very intense construction period of near total closure for 102 Avenue lasting one month than a lighter one lasting for longer. It's a gamble, and an admittedly tough choice, that had paid off a few times. Considering their admittedly lofty goal of having the entire track laid this year, they and the public have to make concessions somewhere. Here's to a speedy but safe 2026.

Yes, hopefully we have learned something from past construction. Better to have a shorter closure period if possible rather than a more drawn out one.

Constriction on 107 Street:

I still don't know for sure about the existence of crossing gates at the Anthony Henday exit on 87th Ave. I'm hoping they end up installed to prevent right hand turns on red.

There is a set of gates at the Lewis Farms park and ride where it crosses the north/south tracks.

That whole stretch of track from the Lewis Farms stop to Aldergrove should really be fenced, with crossing gates at to 189st to accommodate a 70 kmh speed.

I think the city has already said they have no plans to install crossing arms on Henday/87 Ave.

I live closeby and no crossing arms there will be a big mistake. It’s one of the main access points to our city’s largest tourist attraction (WEM), and I foresee a lot of accidents with people unfamiliar with our LRT system.

I'm not hearing anything definitive from people in the know. The change order would be about $500k-1,000,000. A lot of people involved want them.

I think they're wasting the money on the gates at the OMF.

The at grade crossing there is a huge preventable blunder. Should not be designing at-grade LRT crossings on a highway off-ramp. As others have pointed out, at the very least they should be installing crossing arms here.
It's far better than the Whitemud crossing on the VLSE. The exit ramp looks like it'll be designed to function as a through-fare rather than a true right turn. Hopefully it's intuitive that you can't turn right on red here.

Still, I'd prefer crossing gates and much faster trams.
