Highlights, Part II:
(1) Medians under various stages of construction at 156 Street, ranging from digging to catenary foundations to tracked construction.
(2) Digging of medians at Stony Plain Road (156-142 Street.
(3) Completion of curbs and paving along SPR. Traffic lights going up at some intersections.
(4) Trackbeds are near completer in Glenora. Glenora station at early stages. Trackbed ready for construction at Groat Road bridge.
(5) Median dug from Groat Road bridge to 124 Street.
(6) SPR Eastbound from 124-121 Street closer to completion, from curbwork to paving.
(7) Traffic lights up at some intersections on 104 Avenue EB from 121-109 Street.
(8) Median construction advancing along 104 Avenue, including trackbeds and catenary.

Their goal is to get the roadwork on 104 Ave done by the end of November. Or do you mean all of the catenary and stuff too? It'd definitely be nice to see that stuff done.

104st and 102ave.

I don’t think it’s acceptable for 102ave to be closed for all of next summer as such a critical set of intersections. They should get asphalt removal done all winter inbetween intersections and then do accelerated intersection replacements in the spring for 10 weeks.

103 and 104 are the critical ones to just not allow to be closed for 12 months.
 
It might be early for me to say this, but I think 104 Street's intersection should be the first to start (late Apr-early June) to facilitate the market. Even then, the track crossings could be done half a street at a time

Not surprising though. Hybrid work along with low incentives from the City (for even their own employees) will keep ridership lower than originally projected. They need a better partnership program for other employers downtown and need to incentivize their own workforce better. It is only $15/day to park in the library parkade and a bunch of City employees get paid parking. Easy solution is to go scorched earth like the GOA did a number of years ago and put limits on who gets parking along with better subsidies to drive people to transit, both private and public. Perhaps GOA going back to standard 5/days a week will help a bit, but their offices aren't really close to the Valley Line stations.

That isn't even getting into how the Valley Line SE is a milk run. The alternate route that skips going into Strathearn and Holyrood that had adjacent stops on Connors would have been so much better. As someone that lives in Bonnie Doon, I rarely take the train because it barely offers any time savings to just jumping in the car and driving to the abundance of cheap parking downtown.
 
There isn't much time savings with respect to the LRT until it reaches Davies station. Riders will also take 500X to Tamarack/Maple, bypassing the Valley Line.

Still a concern that ridership is less than 1/3 of what original projections were. The entire line is supposed to be over 100k daily and it is looking like it will be quite a bit lower than that when in full operation given what the west projections are.

However, it is what it is. Its not like there will be much anyone can do about it other than say that the original projections were based on pre-pandemic modeling and perhaps over exaggerated. It provides accessible and reliable transportation to a portion of the population that needs it, and besides, often the social consideration for large public transportation projects outweighs the fiscal consideration.

It doesn't help that the GOA refuses to participate in the ETS@Work program. They considered joining it a few years ago (and also striking similar deals for their employees in other municipalities with transit) in 2010, but ultimately decided against it. It'd be great if they subsidized transit for their employees, instead of just parking.
