I took the Queen car today and had an op that absolutely flew along The Queensway. We were passing traffic the whole time. Also had a King car op who gave it full power between stops and went as fast as he could (like the fastest the TTC allows) through special work. This was refreshing and needs to be the norm.
Was crossing Gerrard at Broadview and nearly walked into a NB Broadview car going through the light late. Not used to this happening at all lol

Would anything prevent the city from posting a separate speed limit for the trains? Obviously not in mixed traffic, but where it's a dedicated ROW.
That's exactly what they did on Finch. They lowered the speed limit from 60 to 50 for cars but they kept a 60 limit for the LRT.

Currently the LRT hardly ever reaches 60 due to the 25 limits through every intersection, but given the announcement that the intersection limits on streetcars will be eliminated, I'm cautiously optimistic that they will be lifted on Finch as well, allowing it to finally cruise at 60 as was originally envisioned.

The Queensway would be a perfect place for streetcar-specific limits, since it's primarily limited by track geometry rather than environmental factors like pedestrians. IIRC the track west of Windermere is designed for 50 but the track from Windermere to Parkside is designed for 70. It seems wasteful to have a 40 limit for the whole segment. Even if we post 10 under the design speed that would still be 60 from Windermere to Parkside.

You don't ride transit much, do you?

There are drivers who will drive to the limit of what is legal, and there are drivers who will drive beyond that. Operating a transit vehicle such as a bus or streetcar that has no ability to discern the roadway speed limits - and who's only limit is a software one, just like the one that exists in your own automobile - doesn't change that.

It's funny because based on this post, I'd assume you hadn't ridden a TTC streetcar in the last 15 years 😂
