Not sure which I find more exasperating - renaming the station to something as long and unwieldy as TMU, or the fact that they need 10 years to rename 2 stations!!!
I mean, if it comes down to that, I'll gladly take TMU over Sankofa or whatever other crap they come up with. If it's to be renamed, TMU makes the most sense hands down.

Next up: TMU Square.

Oh this is going to be comical, looking forward to how badly the TTC will botch this naming implementation. I can guarantee you they will cock up something (ie: they'll probably forget to reprogram the automated announcements on the TR's or Flexities).

But while they're dealing with TMU, they should probably fully outsource a whole source of functions to TMU students because it's clear a large proportion of the TTC is incompetent at doing their jobs properly.

Here's a list of what they could start outsourcing to TMU:

-route management,
-next vehicle displays,
-next stop displays,
-bus and streetcar route maps.

There are many students who have come up with things that are 10x more informative/useful than anything that the TTC has developed and implemented.

They should have just called it Yonge Square. All they would need to do was take out the middle part of the signs.

I really can't see the name falling into regular use. 20 years later, people still call it the SkyDome. I still call Sheppard West Downsview, will still call it Eglinton West, and will still call it Dundas. No new fangled names for me, thanks ;)
So then, why would you call it Dundas, and not Wilton?

A last minute add-on to the agenda for this week's TTC meeting is a tentative deal with TMU to rename Dundas Station at their expense, to TMU Station.

If we can spend time and money renaming this station, but we can't spend that money to install PSDs as part of the Bloor-Yonge expansion project, the TTC will have lost all hope.

Dundas Station was never called Wilton.

As for the street, a liiiil bit before my time.
So ... you are telling me that the name Dundas Street has fallen into regular usage?

So will the new station name - whatever it may be. Over our dead bodies perhaps. :)

Lots of negativity here for what is an otherwise simple renaming to something which I assume the school will encourage to abbreviate as TMU Station. There are very long station names throughout the world and people seem to get by regardless.

Variations of the same name (Dundas, Dundas West) are worse, IMO, depending on circumstance.

What do long station names have to do with this? Read the report.

This will be the station with just about the shortest name in Toronto.

I expect the children of today will end up using the new name, but few people who were sentient at any time of it being called Dundas.

TMU station

TMU might be the acronym, but surely that's not going to be what is used on the displays or station walls, is it? I don't see how an acronym is better than having two stations with the word Dundas in them, it doesn't help anyone who is not a local orient themselves.

But with TMU Station, they can try to get a Temu sponsorship...

(I think TMU Station would be fine, as long as it's not the whole name.)

Rode the 504 westbound this morning and there was no backup at the Queen/Church/Richmond area. It took just over six minutes to go from Queen and Church to Yonge and Richmond, which is roughly as fast as walking, but traffic could not be blamed.
