Had to wait for 25 minutes for a westbound 504A at Yonge today at 5:30 pm and watched a 501, 503, 508 and 2 504B go by me, it wasn't much better going eastbound.

By the looks of thing, the work on the Kipling tunnel is almost done with backfilling and compacting taking place before pouring the new sidewalk area. The curb for the loop is now in place. Could be open in mid-late November than the plan December date.

If TTC and the city remove the reattaining wall and sidewalk from the Kipling Station Condo sit to where the wide sidewalk is now, they can widen the sidewalk to match the new one that will be built that will be built by Kipling Station Condo. This will allow better pedestrians flow compared to the narrow sidewalk and retraining wall that used to be there.

Waiting for a Kipling subway train at Dundas, an empty train blew through the station and the next train in 6 minute.

I was on a 540A at Queen/Broadview at 5:10 PM heading to Broadview Station.

There were 4 cars backed up heading westbound at the Queen/Broadview intersection.

At 4:45 I waited at least 10 minutes for a streetcar.

From what I understand there was an incident at Queen and Broadview.

No 512 using St Clair W station that was supposed to start on Sunday.

Starting tomorrow night, Nov. 1, at 11 p.m., buses will replace streetcars along the entire 512 St Clair route for at least two weeks as the TTC completes upgrades to St Clair West Station terminal - nearly two months early.

The replacement will also give Toronto Water and the City time to complete emergency repairs to a sinkhole in the area of St. Clair and Avenue Road that forced a partial bus replacement last week.

The temporary removal of streetcar service from Nov. 1 (11 p.m.) to Nov. 14 (5 a.m.) accommodates the final phase of construction within the station and the loop. This final phase of work could not be done when streetcar service was removed earlier this year as that would have prolonged the full removal of streetcar service.

The 512 St Clair is usually serviced by eight to 10 streetcars depending on time of day. During this replacement, 15-30 buses will run to meet demand.

Although the work area is limited, the TTC opted for full bus replacement to minimize transfers for customers traveling longer distances.

Crews will be working on overhead track and related structures. Crews will also rehabilitate the streetcar shelter at St. Clair West at Spadina. This work is expected to begin on Nov. 4 and will last approximately one week.

The underground loop will reopen to streetcars on Nov. 14 at 5 a.m. Buses on the 33 Forest Hill, 90 Vaughan, and 126 Christie are scheduled to return on the morning of Nov. 17. Work at the loop was originally predicted to take until December to complete.

The TTC reminds customers that unforeseen issues arising during construction could impact these dates.

Maybe we can finally get rid of some of the uninformative signage that doesnt even tell an individual if one is doing east/west and north/south on the subway system.

Didn't they implement this "new and improved" signage only a couple of years back?

Can anyone explain how the bus replacement helps them speed up construction when no streetcars were entering the tunnel anyway due to the sinkhole? All I can figure is they've added the streetcar operators to the construction crew and the additional labour will make it faster

But seriously, I hate the ridiculous ultra positive PR spin every message has to have, and wish they'd be honest with us.

I believe this is triggered by the upcoming requirement for signage and some announcements to be bilingual. Metrolinx being the owner of the Crosstown and of Finch West as well as the O/L will put it under the same rules as GO.

The TTC is then faced with trying to have its signage and announcements fit the new protocols.

Which is funny and unfortunate because Metrolinx seems bent on confusing everyone in general with their local station naming schemes by having multiple stations named after each other (ie: Eglinton- Hurontario LRT, Eglinton GO, Eglinton- Yonge Line). Not to mention the corporate station naming sponsorship mess instituted by the province.

I still have no idea what they were huffing when they did that. Heaven forbid people are given a variety of tools to help them understand the world around them!

Zero mention of GO Transit on this press release or www.ttc.ca/taylor. Competent public agencies would provide a unified service plan. There will be a lot of fans coming from outside the City of Toronto, this plan only provides information on the using the subways. GO Transit also has a large amount of train and bus capacity within Toronto. They should be encouraging people to choose GO or the UP Express where feasible. Telling everybody from the Airport to load onto the 900 -> Line 2 is a terrible idea.

We need a unified communications and security strategy for large events like these. People will use multiple methods to get to this event, including GO and TTC. The transportation agencies shouldn't have their own Balkanized public messaging. All this divided communications strategy does is make transit confusing for people.

To be fair - the TTC or City aren’t the entity putting on this event. TTC and GO Transit should be putting on information targeted at their customers who are not attending but may be concerned about availability of service on their local routes. The event promoter is the one who should be pushing out information on region wide options for travel and directing attendees towards the right agency

Improvements coming to TTC’s 501 Queen streetcar service this weekend

With the completion of track and overhead work on Adelaide, Richmond and York streets, the TTC will improve 501 Queen streetcar service between Neville Park and South Etobicoke starting this Sunday, Nov. 10.

The TTC worked in partnership with Metrolinx and the City of Toronto to build the new tracks, allowing for a short streetcar diversion around Ontario Line construction at Queen and Yonge streets. The 501/301 Queen streetcar will operate along Queen St., diverting east via Adelaide St. and west via Richmond St., and connecting to Queen at Church St. and York St.

The diversion eliminates the need for TTC replacement buses in the area while providing 501/301 Queen customers with an uninterrupted connection to both sides of Line 1 at Osgoode and Queen stations and across the downtown core.

The new tracks also create additional streetcar diversion options in the downtown core for things like emergencies, events such as TIFF and planned streetcar infrastructure work.

“Making transit more efficient is a major priority for the City, and I am pleased that the TTC is able to restore 501/301 Queen streetcar service along the Queen St. corridor while Metrolinx works to build the Ontario Line,” said Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow. “We know that construction can be challenging for Torontonians, but the restoration of this service will make it easier for residents to navigate the downtown core.”

“The TTC, City of Toronto and Metrolinx continue to work collaboratively to improve transit in Toronto, while reducing the impact of construction on residents,” said TTC Chair Jamaal Myers. “I want to thank everyone who worked to get this long-term diversion in place and ensure that customers continue to have direct connections to Line 1.”

As of Nov. 10, the 501/301 Queen streetcar will no longer operate via Spadina Ave., King St. and Church St, and the 501B/301B replacement bus service will no longer operate.

I’ve noticed a new thing at Broadview station where the 504 pulls in and a 4-5 person cleaning crew breezes through with brooms and cleaning cloths. Nice initiative. Wonder if the new CEO gave a directive. It reminds me of Japan. (In a very small way.)
