The clear solution is to align the GO and subway platform together, north of the 407. Pier to pier that underpass fits 4 tracks with no platforms, and there’s an additional few metres for passage on the outsides of those piers. Could include a bypass track on the east side.
It would be so cool to have a platform that has GO and the subway like berlin

Any ideas why the RFP for the advance tunnel contract is taking so long to sign compared to similar tunnel contracts MX has recently done?
The other tunnel contracts took around a year to sign, yet the contract for YNSE has taken longer than that.

They were doing lots of borehole stuff late last year so maybe it's related to that?
In the meantime, it's not like any of the previous tunnel contracts are going great (hasn't SSE been stuck in the same place for months?) so maybe it's better to take longer with the RFP if it means the actual tunnelling goes smoothly :)

Eglinton west tunnelling completed without major delays so there's that 👍

They're asking for BIG troubles and problems if they choose Acciona. The project would by default be 3-5 years late, and suffer billions in cost overruns.

Not sure what's the history of Acciona but Aecon was chosen to build the scarborough subway stations so perhaps MX is leaning towards choosing the Aecon team.

I posted about some of their history in the Crosstown thread, feel free to peruse if you're interested. But for a short summary, they are absolutely dreadful and almost every project they've been involved in have suffered immense delays and drastic cost overruns. Metrolinx would essentially be guaranteeing themselves another Crosstown situation fiasco.

A quick Google search will even pull up how bad their performance is with virtually everything.

Ah so another idiot decision by Metrolinx.

They're really pulling out all the cards to make this extension be as inefficient as possible:

1) Unnecessarily choosing to deep dive the tunnel around Royal Orchard to appease ~50 homeowners, which will cost tens of millions more and impact subway operations.
2) Omitting Cummer Station because they dont feel like paying for it.
3) Now refusing to build a centre platform bus terminal at Steeles for more efficient bus-bus transfers, and bus to subway transfer.

Just another day in the life of stupid decisions by Metrolinx.
