Has this forum also discussed the EQ logo added to the top of the nearby EQ Bank Tower? It's on the eastward facing side. I don't have an issue with either but this Menkes one got quite a bit of grief.

Also, the Tim's at ground level has re-opened.
Signage can get permits fairly easily IF they are for “first parties” (occupants). So EQ probably has one, Menkes is not the buildings owner, or won’t be when the condo is registered. I doubt they could get a permit. People did complain, clearly no City action, yet.
 
2026-04-14 - Tower is very handsome and would be fine taller. The red verticals and rounded corners are very good. Elegance is helped by lack of balconies on the east and west facades (although Menkes does great sculptural balconies). The podium fits the context well though its curves, colour and material diverge from the tower a bit too much, missing coherence. The lobby surround is fine but again diverges, leading to three distinct parts that are good but don’t quite fit together. Very nice overall. Huge improvement on the prior gas station. Welcome to a great neighbourhood.

It is a pretty decent building, though the mechanical box could be FAR better. Being adjacent to the ghastly Time and Space actually makes it seem even better.
 
Agreed that the mechanical box could be better, but I'm not as bothered by it as I expected to be. It doesn't look like some afterthought, but rather a relatively well-proportioned crown. In any event the gently rounded corners framed by red fins make this one a winner in my books. It kind of feels like a modern version of Bay-Charles Tower.
 
And I have the say the restoration they did on the Tim Hortons building is excellent. My only complaint with it is that it's too good to waste on Tim Hortons! 😀
And the facade on Front St. Not architecturally significant, but worth keeping. I used to go to the Rehearsal Factory there, will be a completely different vibe.

Architects could specify shades with a dark grey or black facing the glass to hide that effect.
Yes, I agree with you, but hard to enforce once the project is completed, unless they are fully built in each unit, which is costly and a lot of places I have been apart of don't include.
Is what it is. I will still enjoy the splash of colour.
 
They are putting the finishing touches to the main entrance (??) at corner of Sherbourne & Front. Too reminiscent of Trump 'taste' for my liking! Nothing looks more 'fake' than fake gold! This building is really pretty good except for the street level and the penthouse.

...this is likely too sophisticated for him, unless it comes with a flattering 5 metre gold statue of him in a prominent position. /bleah
 
Colour is always a first good step. But poor application of such can make the eyes bleed though. For example...




...not saying that's an issue here. Just that adding colour shouldn't dissuade us from making valid criticisms of such.
 
The "gold" detailing is a bit Trumpian for my personal tastes, but the building has nice fit and finish, and it's a billion times better than the towers in the immediate vicinity, so I'm fine with it. There's too much blandness everywhere these days.

Also, today I noticed some advertising up on the building promoting rentals, and I was a bit surprised because I thought this was a pure condo tower. Looking online I see the builder (Menkes) is directly managing the rental of units in that building, and others. Has this always been something they've done, or is a new tactic in response to the current non-existent condo market, or buyers who have been unable to close and left them with empty units?
