I noticed these new lights for the intersection as well and you beat me to the punch, again lol.

I had been wondering where the Webb Drive extension would hit Kariya Drive. I guess we now know. It's closer to Burnhamthorpe than I expected.

It will be safer for those who want to cross--I wonder if they'll remove the pedestrian crossing a little further down--seems redundant and a lot of drivers don't particularly pay attention to it

I don’t think it will be as bad (for the land owners) as it seems. The extension will not run parallel to Burnhamthorpe but more south westerly and thus only the east part of the lot will be effected. You see this if you draw a line in Google maps from the current east end of Webb Dr to the west end of Enfield Pl.

Your layout is very close to what is taking place now. They have removed more of the south-west corner of the lot that is more toward the north-east corner of the school yard leaving space for a wide sidewalk with green space between the sidewalk and the school from what I shot today.

That extension is long over due and will offer better access to the school and the street based on the pools of water that is there along with mud ponds that existed today as well the past few decades. There used to be access to the school on the west side, but was closed years ago leaving access only on the east side.

i expect the remaining land on the southside of the new road will become part of the existing park as part of section 37 requirement.

Figured I’d post a pic now that they put up the signals (still covered up).

Interesting to note there aren’t any facing traffic coming from the expected Webb Dr extension. So I guess they don’t expect that to be built any time soon.

It does really seem close to Burnhamthorpe.

First thoughts are that they change in Enfield’s favor extemely quickly. As I was walking they changed to red for Kariya like 3 times as I was approaching. Seemed unnecessary and they stayed red seemingly longer than necessary.

Yeah that was my experience too. I’m guessing they won’t stay this way and they will be altered a bit. I’m never going to understand why kariya didn’t make it all the way to central parkway when they were building the school. Seems like a missed opportunity.

You'd think a car-oriented place like Mississauga would have an idea how to program traffic lights, but I can confidently say that Mississauga sucks at it. Even though Toronto has way too many extraneous lights, at least they're programmed more intelligently and aren't overly long unnecessarily.

Yeah they haven’t been changed. My parents from ottawa complain about the lights all the time in Mississauga. Maybe I got used to them.

They did put that weighing strip down on Enfield. Maybe the real problem is one car can trigger it. In order for Kariya to move better I think that’s a low bar. That being said how is the Webb extension coming. There’s a lot of dirt moves around. Is this fairly imminent. If so maybe they’ll have to figure these lights out then.

Many people had replied to your post (and I won't be repeating what they said) but looks like all those were deleted. It's strange that trolling is allowed but replying to trolling is not.

What's interesting for you could be boring for someone else. I can't see myself living in downtown with shoebox size condos, aggressive homeless people, drug addicts, smell of piss at every corner (even at the entrance to Union), barely any space to walk, lack of greenery, worst traffic congestion. The list can go on. In suburbs, there are other problems but I'd rather deal with those than deal with downtown's problems.

I live in the suburbs in a sfh near this development and walk to get my coffee, restaurants, shopping, church, my kids school. I don’t drive everywhere and don’t find it boring.

Technically I could walk for groceries but I do prefer to drive for that. I also choose to live here when technically we could live almost anywhere. Less square footage but still more or less anywhere (previously lived walking distance to union station. And then near Forest Hill) But maybe I’m just boring.

Houses in suburbs on an average are more expensive than the shoebox condos in downtown. Anyone who can afford to live in suburban SFH can also afford to live in a downtown condo. So no, their options are not limited.

Also, where are you getting 60% number from? More than 60% of GTA's population lives outside of City of Toronto and the City of Toronto itself is mostly suburban.

An intersection near my house had a left turn signal added due to many severe collisions. When they first added it, the signal cycle was so short only 3 cars or so could get through before having to wait 2-3 minutes for the next cycle. It took a couple months, but I'm sure they had enough complaints and now it is fine. Raise your concerns through 311 and I think it will be addressed. Not sure if they just let the initial configuration ride for a period of time until they get data on how to calibrate the signal cycles.

What bothers me is the many places where even off-peak there are very long signal cycles that don't really seem justified and encourage non-compliance. If traffic is light, there is no compelling reason for multi-minute signal cycles to maximize capacity. Pedestrians will not wait and will jaywalk, and people will run red lights when they can't be bothered to wait.
