Maybe still another announcement to come

If it is this Hardy guy, it would be weird to justify the build-up when other acts who are bigger didn't get that treatment.
I can't believe Sonu Nigam would justify it either.

It's a dangerous game to be hyping something up and then disappointing people.

In any case, continued good work on getting the arena booked for events.

It's Hardy. Arenas all over the country have the same "big" announcement coming

Not being a Country fan, no clue or insights, great that TDC getting a broad range of acts and entertainment. I truly think the City is being a bit flat-footed about the opportunity here , this is a massive opportunity to make some great impressions .

Of course the city is being flat footed, the city is horrible run, and they are experts at screwing up golden opportunities.

At a police board meeting, Councillor Kroetsch likened TDC to a mining operation and suggested that the business interests were being "extractive" and questioned what they were contributing to the community. He also suggested something about the streets maybe not being able to handle the foot traffic. This was all in response to a suggestion from Louis Frapporti about the need for safety and security and wayfinding and the use of CPTED principles.

Kroetsch then went on to write a nonsensical piece in the Spectator questioning the secrecy of the long-since-signed agreement between HUPEG/OVG and the city.

What?

Does the guy not realize that a nearly $300 million private investment into an otherwise crumbling arena is a good thing for our tax base, for businesses in the area, for downtown in general, for people who will be working at the arena, for patrons of the various events, for overall civic pride? Yes, the business interests got tax breaks and a couple of parking lots, but what value does any of this have if the building is dead? And yes, they are looking to make money from this. They are risking significant capital to make a return. They are not a charity and that is how businesses work.

And yes, the city should do way more to make the area around the arena more welcoming to visitors and less gross/frightening. Have people cleaning up garbage, have more of a police presence, arrest people who are openly using drugs, set up wayfinding, work with Metrolinx/GO to have much later outbound trains in operation, spruce things up a bit with some flowers or something, make it fun.

Hoping that 2026 ushers in a whole new slate of business oriented councillors, folks who can work to attract business (ie non residential tax base), while finding ways to keep taxes flat or something novel like a reduction.

I wonder if they're planning on not painting the bottom corner.

It looks nice with the lights on, imagine even better when fully programed.
