The other great thing is the re-establishment of the street grid.
^^^ This is bascially a 'green field' site as it had no true public streets running through, and all the infra was up for reconstruction.
That being the case, I really don't understand the use of concrete planters here.
The vegetation would do better, and look better closer to flush with grade, a small curb could be used to slightly reduce salt infiltration if desired.
If you are going to go with an elevated planter, then integrate seating, and do *something* with the concrete. You could cap it (assuming we can't do them entirely in stone). Top and front-face only, limestone or granite, not that expensive.
Alternatively, you want a lower cost solution? Fine, dye the concrete and use forms to texture or pattern it. I will want seating though. You could just leave space for a bench or two, or you could create widened ends, or you could just anchor composite slats on.
Gah. Lazy design choice. .
Also would have been nice to have interlock sidewalks and remove the street parking.
