Hmm... it'll never happen, but that makes me think how neat it might be to have the rail deck designed like a giant octopus, with the body being a full on building & the tentacles spread out to form the deck as well as bridges to street level or up to elevated doorways from nearby buildings.

Ford friend’s company settles $500M air rights expropriation dispute with Metrolinx

Some of the air rights Metrolinx expropriated are next to what’s known as the “Rail Deck,” a stretch of air rights above tracks that the City of Toronto has long considered for development. Craft Kingsmen used to be part of the group owning the air rights for the Rail Deck, but no longer is.
What does this mean in plain english? Rail Deck Development is dead now? or only certain sections of it?

Key bits from the Trillium article linked above:

Mx settled, but won't say for how much; given that the person with whom they settled (the proprietor of the would be development company) is a close, personal friend of the Premier.....

That seems suspect:

Mx's lawyers made a fairly good case for why this proposal (Rail Deck) was complete and utter fiction. Something UT'ers reading my comments and those of @ProjectEnd knew a long time ago.

I'm not saying anyone had their thumbs on the scale of the OLT process in the above case..........but.....surely this (below) would raise a few eyebrows:

Absolutely great work by reporters/investigators: Charlie Pinkerton, Jack Hauen and Jessica Smith Cross over at The Trillium; an outlet that deserves your support UT.

Just FYI - the settlement is for the air rights outside of the Raildeck lands. Raildeck lands are not included in the settlemen
Yep:
Ahhhhhhhhhh I have wanted to post about this for so long...

FINALLY: https://www.thetrillium.ca/news/pol...m-metrolinx-in-expropriation-dispute-11134991

(I know the rights in question aren't exactly these ones but as the story pertains directly to the viability [NONE WHATSOEVER] of this stupid phantasmagoria, it probably best belongs here)

It is kinda weird, if the Lawyers were so against it, whyd they settle? too much risk with the OLT? Im a little less pessimistic than others. I highly doubt it was pushed down from above, otherwise the lawyers would definitely speak out.

I’m not understanding. If building towers above the rail corridor is basically impossible, shouldn’t that make it much more affordable for the City to acquire the land for park purposes?

I’d love to see the engineering drawings for the structure supporting several skyscrapers above the rail corridor. Quite the cantilever or beams. There’s a huge difference between supporting groups of people walking on two feet of soil and grass versus a 40-60 storey tower. I’m getting my popcorn for that.
