Yup, the mobile crane is working on the sewer/watermain upgrades on Yonge.

At some point in the near future the existing tower crane will need to be moved or altered to be able to climb with the tower section.

Climbing frame can be installed around the current existing tower sections to allow this crane to move. Upwards just has not been installed yet as they still have about four more floors before they need it

Could be, that said I do not recall ever seeing in Toronto a tower crane installing a climbing frame after the fact without a significant dismantling of crane. It begs the question why wasn't the climbing frame installed when this tower crane was first erected just months ago?

It certainly happens all the time it's really up to the developer themselves. In Kitchener at least Charlie West, 100 Vic Tower 2, and Garment St all had the climbing frame installed once it was required, they were all installed without requiring the dismantling of the crane. Drewlo Tower 2 will need a climbing frame and doesn't have one yet. The only tower crane in recent memory in Kitchener that had a climbing frame installed from the start is 900 King St W.

Less than a decade ago that Toronto Star building was one of the tallest in the area. And in a few years Prestige and the Sugar Wharf towers will be dwarved by much taller towers. If only we had better architecture and more varied colours as well as height …
