Since clearly some of you missed the announcement.

The above was announced at a Ford and Carney event.
Obviously we're looking at time horizons of 10+ years here but the interest is clearly there from the province AND the feds to get something done here.

And for what its worth. ALTO seems to be this PMs pet project and can could you blame him ?

He lived in japan and EU for several years so He's clearly seen the light.

And just my opinion here, but I think privatization of pearson is really about the transit hub, asset recycling (so not true privitazation), to maintain controll of our airports while bringing on some massive sovereignty fund to support the efforts to develop the lands (think about that massive investor confrence happening in September led by the PM). Think about the value capture potential of having a massive transit hub next to the airport. A week or two before the "privatization" announcement, I heard an industry insider muse about how these massive funds always wondered if Canada's airports where in play..with the answer always seemingly no...

So yea I see the smoke.
If ALTO builds a downtown station at Summerhill Station on Line 1 (yes, downtown has expanded over the decades), that means the LCBO store may have to be expanded to handle the crowds passing through it. It was originally a C.P.R. railway station. See https://www.torontojourney416.com/cpr-north-toronto-station/

I continue to be frustrated with current GTAA management. I fully understand that a shovel turning ceremony is an ideal time for a photo opp and self congratulating own shoulder pats. However this project has had numerous announcements, each time with more "Look how great we are" fluff than with any substance of what exactly they are doing. No details about what's being planned/built and where. No real mock up of what the final product will be.

This project may not have the scale as the most recent construction of the new T1 but some details/plans of what's being done would be appreciated, rather than vague notions of "improved concourse"

On Dec 4, 2024 GTAA presented an Industry Forum for potential design and construction partners on LIFT. This included these slides of the Terminal 1 expansion (Gateway project).

I've not seen anything like this in more public presentations but the deck may still be available on Corporate section of torontopearson.com

Still even this is pretty light on the details. Maybe it's my own autistic interest in aviation infrastructure that makes me want to see the actual plans.

I still think that continuing the original Terminal 1 roof design is better, but I would actually accept the cheaper flat-roof version of Terminal 1 check-in hall if they shove all of the hideous US pre-clearance enclosures into that space and restore the remainder of the hall to the original open space it used to be.

And I believe gateway was just one of the three programs in that 2024 presentation, and today's announcement wasn't gateway.
