Personally, I think the new name for the island is A-Ookwe.

(Sorry if this stirs up the debate; I just can't resist a nice bilingual pun)

I may have just missed it earlier, but I think that's the first shot I've seen of what they've done with the "spillway" south of the bend in the river mouth.

Ha! Great shots. They really show how what feels like half of the project is still mud. Like everything west of Cherry is just a waste land still. I know it's all being shaped and contoured and stuff but man this is a big project.

Also, love the landing gear shot. My grandfather designed and engineered that landing gear. Cool to see his work every time I fly a Q400. He also designed and engineered the landing gear on the Arrow and if you're a plane nerd and like to watch planes like the 777 touch down you'll see the back wheels of the main gear touch down before the front wheels (they don't all touch down at once) that was one of his patents to prevent wheel shudder. Now you know! ;)

Okay I was in the camp that the crane, despite its heritage status, wasn't really working for me as public art/statue/whatever you call it for this new park (mostly because the city is so blanketed with cranes that it doesn't feel novel.)

But now I think we should definitely keep it so long as there is an old streetcar permanently suspended in the air.

Actually, they could run the Cherry line down to its base and then, rather than building a loop, have the crane lift and turn it round.

This link has likely been posted before (I missed it) but they added a ton of pics last summer… I stopped clicking “NEXT” after 100 photos lol.

If you are obsessed with the project (like me ;-) click on “Photographs” for a cornucopia of playground construction, planting etc shots … including some great close-ups of workers doin’ their thing.

Amazing pictures. Everyone one of them. I wonder if this job pays more than my UT job.

Does anyone know if those wooden beams will be white tipped so the smoke stack blends in with them?
