I must say I think that making 'official announcements' on private services like Facebook, X or, god forbid, TruthSocial is not a good trend.
...I suppose it's mildly better that they didn't announce it with the Caps Lock stuck on. >.<

Odd to see what looks like a permanent structure going up where the future TOC will be. So I passed by at lunch and asked a rather cheery worker by the gate. He said it’s temporary, for the duration of station construction.

He also referred to it a station mock up, which sounds a bit misleading – it’s not like a show home to attract buyers. Guessing maybe they’ll slap on similar finishes to the head house, use it as a storage shed and call it a day.

Can or would they start building on any part of this site after the tunneling has gone through?
They probably wouldn’t rush TOC construction by increasing risk of composite subway construction. I wouldn’t expect a start until station construction is at 100%.

And there’s much more to be done after the TBM passes through. Order of operations is something like this:
  • TBM reaches here (~Q2 2028)
  • TBM reaches Don yard
  • conveyor equipment is removed
  • gantries are dragged back here and craned out
  • station is capped off (roof filled in) and completed
  • staging area is cleared of equipment
I think that could easily drag on until 2030.

...it certainly has a weird purpose. Not sure it's necessary outside of being an extra shed, IMO.

Having seen them go whole hog in expropriating houses to build second entrances at older stations, I have to figure this is an elevator shaft/second exit/safety something or other. Devs can build on top or around it- but that’s a sturdy bunker meant for permanence.

I took another picture from a different angle this morning. Luckily there was a worker up against that wall so you can get an idea of the size of it. It's pretty damn big and it's easily 2 story's tall (at the moment) but has rebar sticking out at the top by a few feet.

I asked and it IS temporary. Seems bizarre to me as it is VERY well built but ...
