Is there any chance they change the name of the line on wayfinding? I feel like something like "Line 3 Queen-Don" makes more sense than "Line 3 Ontario", especially since both of the "Ontarios" in question don't exist anymore

Was it likely waiting to be dropped down the hole by a crane? That would be fun to see.

None - unless Ontario no longer exists by the time the line opens in the 2050s. :)

(Queen-Don - really? And for the first phase? Thank god they didn't call Line 1 "Eglunion")

I'd say there's a 100% chance the line is only called "Ontario Line" until the ribbon cutting and not much long thereafter. Doug Ford just wants to take credit for it and if changing the Downtown Relief Line name to Ontario Line was what needed to be done to build the thing and get over downtown vs suburb rivalry, then fine.

It'll be Line 3 on a map and referred to as "the blue line" colloquially.

He probably got the idea from Canada Line out in Vancouver. Having said that I am thankful it wasn't repeat of what happened out in Sauga.

Why? Have you ever heard anyone call Line 2 "the green line"? Or Line 1 the "yellow line"? Once in a blue moon perhaps, by someone from out of town ...

Actually I hear that all the time around the office with younger generation. They'll say, "Sorry I'm late, green line was delayed." I've also heard the same for Yonge/Unversity Line like, "Yellow line super slow today."

I still have to think which line is which number. I always say Bloor/Danforth or Yonge/University.

🤷‍♂️

I do it too sometimes.

Odd - in those circumstances, I normally hear "the subway was delayed"

I've heard such things in Montreal. But not in Toronto, Vancouver, London, etc. I guess I've heard people call the London Overground the "orange line" - but they've fixed that good! 🤣

I'd be shocked if it wasn't primarily called Line 3 or Ontario line.

Besides - it's Line 10 that's going to be Blue. The last colour they showed for Line 3 was more a violet-purply colour. Though we'll see how many times that changes before it opens.

Yeah, I sure hope they change the 3 back to SRT blue and use this purple for the 10 if they must. Keep the 1, 2, 3, 4 in their original pre-2023 colors in the correct order.

Yes, all the time. I use the numbers because I'm a bit of a rail geek but even I forget the numbers aside from 1 and 2. People call them by the colours on the map and I also still hear people call it the "Bloor line" or the "Yonge line".

Honestly I hope they don't keep this purple for Line 3 simply because it makes for bad way finding considering it will appear right next to Line 4 on map legends. Generally you want to keep similar colours far apart and break them up with distinct ones in-between.

I doubt that Metrolinx having put up signage for Line 10, will then remove it and redesign it afterward! When has that ever happened.

Oh hang on ... 🤣

Me too, or Y/U/Spadina for the latter.

Since I don't think of the numbering, I'm kind of behind in where it's going.
Previously I heard that line 3's number was being retired indefinitely and would not be reused, then I heard it was being reused for the temporary busway which is under construction along the old line 3 route (not the same thing as bus lanes on Kennedy Road).
I presume Line 10 Hurontario is in a separate numbering from the TTC? Or did we just skip 7 through 9? (I know 7 and 8 are for projects not started yet; 9 seems to be completely non-existent.)
