There's zero plans to put streetcars on East Liberty. And it's not that close to the station. The New Street would make more sense - but it's not wide enough.

The plan has always been to have the bridge, and then the east-west track on the south side of the Gardiner.

I haven't seen any renderings of East Liberty Street - perhaps you are thinking of Atlantic Avenue? I'd assume that the Ossington bus would end up on the New Street - and perhaps Atlantic.
I mean yea the wwlrt had that in 2018....before design on this was even started.
Go look up the last update on it and it says exactly that

Now it sounds like you’re in agreement so I’m just a little confused why you brought up the new street.

Current plans show a bus bay on Liberty New Street as well as a streetcar extension on the south side of the Gardiner (“north side of Exhibition Place” as the WWLRT brief describes it).

Is this from the OL plans? Im saying the better idea is to have the streetcar go down east liberty.
The "future streetcar" is simply the wwlrt plans mentioned above. The plan that has been frozen for 5+ years.

Yes, on the AIC documents it’s actually just called “Linked Documents” instead of usual arch/landscape plans, so it’s a little hidden.

Here’s how I see it:

Case A: extend from Dufferin Loop to Exhibition station north of rail corridor and Gardiner
++ close the gap for 504 to reach the hub
++ gain maybe two streetcar stops on Liberty New Street (east and potentially west of station), which is already sub 300 metres to Exhibition
- - no ability to run streetcars through to Exhibition loop on the south side
- - not much width to squeeze in dedicated LRT lanes alongside driving lanes (which I expect is planned for)

Case B: extend from Dufferin Loop to Exhibition station south of rail corridor and Gardiner
++ close the gap for 504 to reach hub
++ allow through service of 509 to 504 (eg. on one streetcar I can go from say Fleet st. to King and Dufferin)
+ + ample space to build dedicated LRT lanes

Why put it on East Liberty
We’re talking about Liberty New Street as shown in my screen captures above.

shorter? simpler? in front of the main station? in front of all the TOD.
and yes @reinventingthewheel my vote is for Case A
East Liberty Street is the east-west half-way between King Street and the railway tracks. You may be talking about the new street they are going to build along the tracks - which presumably will not have either "Liberty" or "East" in the name.

I believe it was noted earlier, that it's way too narrow for streetcars. And what's the point? They are already building the tracks over to join the east-west track on the south side of Dufferin.

As proposals show, Case B is definitely favoured by the brass and I would have to agree.

But I can appreciate the call for Case A just because of that dead zone on the east end of Liberty Village.
Dense, transit neglected, tons of traffic, and extremely windy 😮‍💨

The new street is tentatively called "liberty new street" as seen in the AIC documents above.
And yea theyre probably going to stick with the original wwlrt plans just because they were already drawn up years ago.
Just saying big missed opportunity especially when busses will be heading down the new street anyway

Basically a nothingburger. Although the market price was more than double the estimated price, it is an infetesimily small part of the project cost and will come out of the budgeted reserve funds for situations just like this.
I don't think a nothingburger is a front-page story (and most of A8) in the newspaper, in a case involving 21 expert witnesses and 165 exhibits. If it's nothing why spend so much (how much?) money fighting it?
