At the risk of sharing something posted much earlier in the thread, I found this video over the weekend that includes a great visual of the Lower Don bridge & portal works happening.
Yes, that machine does the mining. Gosh, that it really Dwarfs the workers! Is this the mining process?
honestly smaller than i thought. I remember hearing about theese cutter heads they got.Yes, that machine does the mining. Gosh, that it really Dwarfs the workers!
The TBMs that will pass through there eventually, on the way from Exhibition to Corktown, will definitely be much much bigger!honestly smaller than i thought. I remember hearing about theese cutter heads they got.
Thats a similar capacity to the Crosstown (if they add a third car, the capacity is closer to 750 on Eglinton)most boards from the exhibition open house were the same we've seen in the past except for these.
the train details are kinda interesting. 661 max capacity for 4-car 80m trainsets.
Asked a guy from connect6ix they said the first trains roll off the line in 2029. Cuttin it close arent we?

For nominal 2031 operations? They need something to test on; part of the Crosstown line is the test vehicles rolled off the line and there was no where to ship them too.Asked a guy from connect6ix they said the first trains roll off the line in 2029. Cuttin it close arent we?

Worth noting that it's 80m, with knockout panels to extend to 5 car 100m, and unlike the Crosstown these trains can run at significantly higher headways due to not needing to deal with a surface tramway section. In other words, this line overall will have a much higher capacity.Thats a similar capacity to the Crosstown (if they add a third car, the capacity is closer to 750 on Eglinton)
The phrase "similar to" vehicles used in Italy gives me pause. It implies to me that the Ontario line trains aren't quite the same model. I know that a little customization for different cities is normal, but I also remember that Ottawa's LRT trains were supposed to be a tried and tested European model tweaked for the North American market. Ottawa's trains have suffered from all sorts of maintenance and reliability issues however. Does anyone know how different the trains Hitachi is building for the Ontario Line are from those in Italy?most boards from the exhibition open house were the same we've seen in the past except for these.

I don't know why different train models in different cities are even considered part of the same "family" under a common umbrella name like Bombardier Movia or Alstom Metropolis. The TRs have nothing in common with the subways in Bucharest except maybe the propulsion, yet both are considered part of the Movia "family". Likewise, the REM is considered part of the Alstom Metropolis "family" yet has nothing in common with the Alstom Metropolis in Budapest. All of those are completely different models used by completely different systems, and have nothing in common aside from the manufacturer and maybe the propulsion, but that doesn't make them part of the same "family". Otherwise you can argue that the T1 is in the same family as the R110A, or the Alstom Metropolis in Warsaw is in the same family as the R160 because they have the same propulsion. The phrase "similar to" vehicles used in Italy gives me pause.
