I would not mind a Cheesecake Factory here. But they've been closing a lot of their downtown locations in the US (i.e. San Francisco, Seattle) so I'm not sure if they would open up in an area with a homeless problem.

As expected this is second hand info from Reddit so take it with a bag of salt.

Worth noting that reports from the Reddit user that Club Monaco is closing are true. While it was Canada Day, stores were all open today and Club Monaco was not. I peeked in and there is no inventory other than on a bunch of mannequins. Let the speculation begin as to what will replace it.

Contrary to my hopes of a 2 story restaurant or pub, I must acknowledge that it's probably unlikely. This stretch from the escalators to about Zara are lined with high fashion including Michael Kors, Kate Spade, Hugo Boss, and Mackage, and a restaurant would seem out of place.

That's changed a lot over the years. There used to be several restaurants throughout the mall, including around where Club Monaco is now (The Magic Pan). An Elephant & Castle was on level 2, roughly where Apple is.

I also recall a second cup kiosk on the second level (?) in the 90s.

It was in the corridor and more like a walk through setup. It was enclosed in glass I believe.

There was also a food court at the corner where Body Shop is currently located. I know Lime Rickey's was on the upper level and I think it had street access, but I'm not sure where, with all the reconfigurations that have occurred since.

And there was Abacus (Chinese Buffet) on Level 1 where Garage is now (I think). Gone by the 2000s (?)

Lime Rickys was actually on the first level below grade, at the spot where it was, but it did have street access, there was an internal staircase you walked up inside the resto to get to the upper or street level. That level was below grade at Eatons, but it was at-grade at Queen.

That was preceded by Swensen's, an ice cream chain founded in the US that is now Canadian-owned, even though I don't think they have any restaurants in Canada anymore.

Apparently North America in general (save for one location in SF) - the rest are all in Asia. All this ice-cream talk is giving me a craving for Demetres?

Terrible way for the workers to find out. Shame on upper management for doing that.

Did anyone see a notice in the entrance to the unit?

I don't have first hand knowledge, but I'm given to understand there may have been a rent issue. Please note, I am saying that is not direct info.

Nothing posted on the door but inventory has been taken out and it was closed again today on a regular business day so safe to assume we can call this news verified.
