It’s not often that this happens but I can confidently say that this is one that turned out better than the renderings.

I walked towards Union down Bay Street a couple of nights ago and the glow of the massive lobby completely changes the area on the east side of the station.

What used to be a dark and derelict entrance to what felt like a highway tunnel now feels like a seamless continuation of the financial district. The tunnel disappears behind the glass bridge and the lights from CIBC Square’s lobby illuminates the side of the station. It really comes together quite nicely. Can’t wait for all the fences to come down and for the bridge to open which will further bring visual activity to between the station and the tower.

Winds started to pick up. Hard to keep the tagline taut. Derrick has a 30km/h maximum operating wind speed, pretty restrictive especially downtown with wind tunnel effects. With winds picking up again this week, outer 3 jib sections needed to be removed to reduce cantilever and stress on the slew brakes.
