Definitely money on the table for LGA and BOS with pre clearance and the LGA times are good. IAD and ORD will be marginal under the best of times.

I can guarantee you that if Porter failed none of these flights would likely operate.
 
Didn't Porter spin off the BB terminal to a private investment group? That group may have gone after the AC business and offered a deal to ensure their long term viability. It goes to show you "if you build it they will come" works sometimes. Hamilton, are you listening? We need more airport options in the GTHA.

That sounds like a good guess. Porter abandoned slots at YTZ (despite a promise to keep using them as part of the deal to sell the terminal), complaining that they were losing millions, and the slots were too expensive when compared to YYZ, as illustrated by the fact that no one else at the time was interested in filling the empty slots. I would guess lowering the price may have been what was needed to attract more use by Jazz/Air Canada Express.

That's right. They sold it in 2015. Yes, sometimes build it and they will come does work when there is a viable path to success. Other times, it just looks like an empty cavernous monument to hubris, bad planning and poor execution. I'm looking at you YMX

Hamilton would make a great connection airport if you were to spend the dough on it. It won't work well with that half assed thing they are doing right now.
 
Would've been more useful to have a flight to DCA since it's SO much closer to downtown. IAD takes forever to get to.
They probably know that they need more of a CNX feed, perhaps to some of UAs TATL, since local traffic won't support this flight - even on the Q400
 
Deja vu. How many times has Air Canada increased the number of flights or added discounted flights from the Island to push out competition and later walk away?
some of us are old enough to remember how much AC used to gouge for putt putt DH3s to and from YUL before Porter showed up. And no matter what fed ministers are blithely promising re "accelerated approvals", high speed rail isn't replacing downtown to downtown air any time soon, especially now the runway extension and tripartite agreement has been extended.

I used to love watching the Jays at Exhibition stadium - usually from the third base reserved bench seats - during the early 1980s and watching the City Express Dash 7s and 8s pop up just after take-off. Those were good times.
 
That the two airlines service different destination airports might affect passenger choice: LGA vs NJ, O'Hare v Midway

wonder what the views from Hanlan's Point Stadium (where Babe Ruth played) could have been like in the airport era (they did not overlap)

You can be sure that porter will shift some, if not all, EWR trips to LGA once preclearance opens. I don't think they are running any EWR trips out of YYZ - just LGA
