I think this laneway will eventually be replaced with pavers once the main building is complete. Main structural work will be complete soon.

I realize this is a bit off topic, but does anyone know what's going on with that building at 148 Wyndham St. that had the fire? Structurally, it appears fairly intact, and though it's certainly not the most impressive building on Wyndham St., I'd hate to see a fire-gutted building or conversely, a vacant lot, remain in such a prominent location for any length of time.

I'm fairly certain it was either picked up by the city or developer, Windmill does intend for a later phase involving some live/work townhomes separate these two buildings, but to the north end, though its always possible they try to fit another set. It's also likely it could just be subsumed into the POPS space.

I'll have to have another look over the most recent documents.

Edit: Accuracy

Thanks for the info. Though I'm all in favour of more residential units downtown, I do bemoan any loss of street-level retail. In terms of retail, that stretch of Wyndham is already threadbare to non-existent from south of the old post office building up to the former Odeon(I know, I know, I'm really dating myself but it will always be the Odeon to me, lol).

There’s been some great progress with the new library! I heard the condos next to the library will be 21 storey 6 more stories than what’s mentioned. Does that seem to tall for downtown Guelph?

The tallest buildings in Guelph now are 2x18 storey buildings near the MacDonell bridge; there's another 18 storey building that's toward the outskirts of town and I believe is a retirement community. A 21 storey bldg would be the tallest in the city by three! Would love to see it, especially with such interesting architecture and a pedestrian focus. Downtown needs it. Next thing downtown needs is faster connections to downtown Toronto!

There does need to be a serious push for transportation. Hopefully it happens in my lifetime 😆

That sounds interesting. Where did you hear this? I am interested in seeing the plans.

It's very tall, but it's about time Guelph stepped up and showed a little bit of urban bravado and heft on the vertical side.
