On the topic of watering street trees, anyone can grab a bucket or even a few empty 2-litre bottles to water them. I've done so in the past. I think we need to see more irrigation systems installed with new street trees given the stress that street trees endure in the summer, which should be managed by the city. Irrigation systems also help trees to grow faster and lusher, making for a more attractive public realm.

Agreed on the above.

I would add though, irrigation would be less problematic if the City assumed responsibility for it; failing that, they need to require that permanent irrigation needs to be integrated with the BAS (Building Automation Systems) of a given building. If it's manual, it just leads to problems. Likewise, new system installs need to come with moisture sensors that ensure irrigation is applied as needed, not automatically at 2pm whether it's needed or not; and they need pressure sensors to ensure leak detection.

I think the sign haters may have to eat their words......

Lol, if you think LEDs make a difference, the bar’s pretty low. I’ve seen this thing up close without the iPhone zoom. Still a mess. Not everyone’s wired to spot good design, fair enough (working in the creative industry, I get that). But this sign? It’s average at best. And average doesn’t belong anywhere near this building.

Massimo Vignelli: “The life of a designer is a life of fight. Fight against the ugliness. Just because people accept bad design doesn’t mean they know what good design is.”

They will be testing these boardwalk lights soon (they are temporary but was told the permanent ones will be installed in November)).

Final note on the tree health along the entire promenade. I’m calling it pretty much full-on hyperbole on a recent post regarding many trees sick or dying or dead. I walked from Sugar Beach to Aqualuna observing each tree. I counted 91 healthy trees, 8 in poor health (with 25-50% dead limbs but generally over half the tree still leaf-bearing), and 4 dead. This does not include the new plantings beside Aqualuna. And sure, there is some subtle colour change occurring but a stressful dry summer can lead to that. But many dead or dying? Nope, as also observed by @Northern Light .

And the willows surrounding Sugar Beach are spectacular. ♥️

I swung by there a couple of days ago and staff told me that the eastern promenade will be open for the Saturday in line with the rec centre's grand opening. Then they'll close it again to complete the finishing touches.

So anyone that wants to walk the full stretch needs to go by Saturday!

Wonder why they do that kinda thing. I loved having Biidaasige open this summer but do find it odd that they opened it, then started tearing up parts right after. I suppose so long as they only have to close for like, half days or a short stint.
