Yeah, north of Sullivan it's surprisingly squat. Now this is the streetwall that Spadina around these parts needs!

I really wonder how stuff like that is possible. Presumably, the owner of the site has been paying high property taxes for all those years without any rental income. Make it make sense. As long as they're able to replicate the existing retail spaces, I have no qualms with redeveloping the unremarkable non-historic buildings along Spadina all the way up until College.
It's frustrating to see the fire damaged properties at the southwest corner of Spadina & Baldwin remain sitting so decrepit for what seems like 15+ years now.
Sincerely doubt they'll be able to. It's been a big sticking point for the local community and Friends of Chinatown. As long as they're able to replicate the existing retail spaces, I have no qualms with redeveloping the unremarkable non-historic buildings along Spadina all the way up until College.
If the rent is just too high, the answer is that the originals will not return. What I guess will happen is one or two new stores, with tons of empty "for lease" storefronts.Sincerely doubt they'll be able to. It's been a big sticking point for the local community and Friends of Chinatown.
The rent is still too high.^The sensible, solution to this issue is to allow retail space on side streets.![]()
One of the main originals was Rol San and they didn’t want to return as they were moving anyway (across the street). If the rent is just too high, the answer is that the originals will not return. What I guess will happen is one or two new stores, with tons of empty "for lease" storefronts.
