Blanchard had trouble with field goals and converts. There were about seven points left off the scoreboard.

Perhaps a result of a little bit of "sports exhaustion?" I finally have some inner peace now that the playoffs are over....back to regular life.....

Thursday night, Oilers fatigue, weather. The bars afterwards DT were unusually empty for a Thursday.

People are tapped out, and everyone I spoke to felt this way.

I tells you though, the energy level in that building is non-existent and sure it has a lot to do with on-field, but man o man they must continue working on trying to bring people back with promos, fun, food etc.

I disagree…

If I’m looking for “promos, fun, food etc.” I’m not headed to Commonwealth Stadium.

If I’m headed to Commonwealth Stadium, it’s to watch a football game or whatever is being featured on the field.

Nothing beats winning if you want people to come to your sporting event to watch your team play.

Is there a small market for just “promos, fun, food etc.”? Probably, but the baseball team and stadium have it sewn up and as successful as they are in it they’re also showing how limited it is in size.

Entertainment these days, including live sport, is much more than just 'what's on the field'.

I'm not sure I recall going to a live event where things were a miss... from the band nobody could see/hear, to the awkward host and the lack of reasons to just come enjoy.

I know they are working on this and wish them well, but that we cannot get 20k fans out for a home opener is unfortunate, even with the Oilers hangover.

Much work to be done, including winning.

One last item on the “promos, fun, food, etc.” front that the Riverhawks get right that the others forget is that we can go to a Riverhawks game and still talk to each other as well as enjoy the game and the promos and the fun and the food. In other words it remains a social event whether you’re there with friends or family - including children - or business associates or people from out of town.

While there’s certainly a time for noise and “fan participation” at sporting events, it’s one thing when that noise is generated by fan participation and enthusiasm and it’s another when it’s a constant 80-100 decibels of amplified noise that adds nothing but takes away lots.
