This had to be shot in April as both tower cranes were up and a lot of work still be done for the walkway railing area. Credit to Gordie Howe Bridge Groupe

The removal of the US tower happen shortly after I was there as there is another one saying June

Google Maps has the bridge and ramps marked.

A Windsor Star article says the Gordie Howe Bridge may not open until sometime in 2026, mainly due to delays in finishing the U.S. and Canadian customs plazas.
Not surprised based on what I saw in June and more to do with the US side than Canada side. i was able to see the Canadian side 100%, but very little of the US plaza with the barrier walls in place. Bridge work on the US side well behind the Canadian side as well work on the I-75 and local roads.

As a note, if you drill down on the map above, it is an 2023 map as they just bridge work over the river, with the new route lay on top of it.

This youtube channel posts regular construction updates on the Canadian side with drone footage - the narration can be a bit obnoxious but the videos are great:

The Canadian port of entry has been done for several months judging by the videos - there is no construction traffic in the area any longer, all lane painting is completed, etc.

As the drone footage doesn't cross the border it's tougher to see how the US side is doing, but generally the zoomed views seem to indicate that it's still finishing up. The interchange with I-75 also seems a little behind.

Despite this report it is still possible to open the traffic by the end of this year?
Yes, the source from that article was a report to management of the bridge about scheduling risks - it's not clear if those risks have been mitigated or not. The official position is "Fall 2025" - given that fall is only about 2 months away, I suspect they would be shifting communications if they thought that wasn't possible.

I suspect it'll be later in the fall period however. Possibly a ~December opening. We'll have to see.

Interesting about the painting. Why can't we paint the CN Tower and outside of the Roger's Ctr in the same way? 🤨

Maybe the owners don't want to?
Ancient Greek and Roman buildings and bridges were actually painted and decorated . It was weathering and time that the paint got worn out, and why they have the basic material colouring of today. No maintenance was done to repaint them today.
