I've never like this to hold interlocking in place. Too flimsy, imo.

And I found some interlocking sinking (I stepped on the dip)

And, of course, the Queen Street sidewalk is still out of service.

Strangely, it feels like they made far less of an effort along Eastern Avenue. This was basically the only real part that showed significant work for planting and, at the time of taking this photo, it looked like some of the bushes here were struggling in this group.

The rest of the south side looked to be mostly just grass and sidewalk. 🤷‍♂️

Even the plants along the west side appear to be struggling as well but a few here and there are trying. They clearly need a little bit more TLC.

I figured they probably will do significant planting next summer with the cold season coming up, also with closing not officially finishing till end of year and the registration being transferred to the condo board. That's how they did it at my building

Fences are down, time to take a look. Years ago, we were promised something special!

My first impression is severe disappointment. It's awful. It feels awful. Unless you love concrete, then it's great!

qa-556.jpg

The abandoned building on the east side of the space is the best feature.

qa-548.jpg

If there's one thing people love, it's concrete in an incoherent pattern with a rectangle of grass in the middle for no reason.

qa-547.jpg

The area reserved for cars doesn't get concrete, it gets paving bricks because cars are awesome! The car spaces and human spaces don't mesh together at all.

qa-549.jpg

The garage doors dominate the area, but this will be eventually mitigated as the trees grow. Still, a stellar example of 'no effort' design & execution.

qa-550.jpg

The TCHC parking structure also overlaps in an uncomfortable way, pushing against the dinky play structure.

qa-551.jpg

Trees in planter boxes. They will never grow up, never fall in love, never attend senior prom. The planter boxes create a wonderful combination of messy and incomplete.

qa-554.jpg

Nice. All ready to be forklifted outta here when everyone gets sick of them.

qa-552.jpg

The site gently slopes from Queen Street downwards towards Eastern Ave. This could have been a feature but hasn't been incorporated into the design, so you just feel liked you're being pulled towards the parking area.

I think the space in the photo below is supposed to be a patio for the coffee shop, but it's also sloping down, so watch out for spills!

qa-555.jpg

It's not 100% finished, but it's enough to add it to the growing collection of projects in the 'You Could Have Built Anything Here and You Built THAT?' category.

Good photo essay on what is terrible landscape architecture.

Wow.

Let down / Disappointment hardly covers it. This in intentional malpractice! What a mess!

There is nothing about this project, as-built, that doesn't leave one feeling the initial promise and the ultimate delivery were bait-and-switch.

Absolutely everything about that landscape doesn't work, won't work and will have to be re-done.

One could argue the same for the buildings.....................sigh.

Where's the 🚬 reaction? I need one after looking at this recap of what's gone wrong here. Good grief. I don't want to know who thought this landscaping plan was s good idea or a prodictive use of space. It's inherently bad design which doesn't encourage a welcoming social space, and almost reads as a parking lot with trees.

(Final quip, since theres so much empty space here, maybe you can have a rave here instead of say, at the Cottonwood Flats?)
