I think that other rendering is from an earlier plan. Initially, they were going to demolish the original south span after they built the new north span, and then build a new south span. Then in 2019, they decided to rehabilitate the existing bridge to preserve its heritage features. Rehabilitation of the existing bridge also meant they could adapt the existing maintenance walkway as a pedestrian crossing, so there wasn't a need to build a pedestrian crossing on the northside. The current plan is for the multi-use trail to run on the north side of the highway on either side of the river, and then new ramps will carry the path up under the new north span to the maintenance walkway under the south span.

(EDIT: Whenever you photograph the bridge next (excellent photos btw), you could see if they've started to add permanent fencing to the walkway. In your October photos, it looks like it still only had temporary wooden fencing.)
You mean the original walkway under the original south bridge, right? Will do. I just need to take off from a different location than my usual spot.

Does this graphic help? They are repurposing an old maintenance walkway beneath the bridge, according to the 2021 environmental assessment.

I don't think it's very visible, except perhaps from below.

That's different than the render a couple of pages back which shows it hanging on Northside of the new bridge. I wonder which render is the one that will be built?

This is what I'm talking about. The plans changed, and combined being tucked under the bridge, it's hard to grasp.

I might have a chance to shoot the south side of the bridge this Friday morning since I'll have a car that day. Right now I'm not loving the wind forecast but that could change.

Aside from Tim's October photos, there's also a really good photo on page 2 of this thread. I think someone copied it from a CBC article. It was taken before the north span was built, but you can see the walkway really well. Probably not as good as walking it yourself though I suppose, but still good.

Any update on this projects timeline? I feel like not much noticeable progress has been made in the past few months.

Best to visit Tim MacDonald site as he would have the latest aerial shots. It was slow going the last time I was going eastbound and seen backup for both direction at Hurontario St

Walkway on the southside not built, but in the process of doing it as well the new trail for it. Will say off hand since I rarely use the QEW that it will be done in 2026 or by year end.

I drove this corridor last night. Lots of landscaping happening on the north east section of QEW and Mississauga road and paving Mississauga road getting underway. I was driving so not a lot of time to be looking off the road but I am curious to know how things are progressing on the south side. If I remember to charge up the batteries I might do a flight this weekend.

March 31 satellite imagery shows where they are at more or less:

They look pretty close to ready to shift the EB lanes on the west side of the project, however grading and paving is still needed on the eastern half.

After that it will be completing construction of the centre median, then opening of the final lane configuration. I drove by last week and noticed they had done a fresh coat of asphalt on Mississauga Road under the highway, so they are approaching completion on the service roads in the area.

They aren't particularly far off. My bet is we are down to final landscaping works come July or August.

Some photos of the new multi-use trail during a construction tour. Should be open later in the summer. Photos of the new trails on Premium Way, Stavebank bridge over the QEW (delayed opening to next year), trail and bridge running under and along the south QEW bridge, and new trail & cycle track up to and on Mississauga Road:
