Mine too. It's feels so much different than the covid crash. This is a “train wreck” caused by the lunacy of one man.
Not one man. He has most of the Republican party on his side. 77 million people who voted for him plus 90 million who didn't vote at all. The number of people responsible for this is well into 9 figures.

A lot of voters are turning on him. His Muslim voters who love Trump because of his anti LGBTQ2S+ views have turned on him. And far right ding bats like Ted Cruz and Rand Paul are speaking out. As well as many other Republicans. Too little too late! They already shot themselves in the foot.

Arab and Muslim voters helped deliver Michigan to Trump. They're not all happy so far

Most Republicans aren't really fans of the tariff policy, particularly against (erstwhile) allies like Canada.

Are we talking the pols or their voters?

On the former, the U.S. Senate just voted on the subject of the tariffs against Canada and did rebuke Trump....47 Dems and 4 Republicans. Which would seem to leave a gap of 49 or so Republicans.....

The U.S. House leader (Repub). will not allow such a vote to come to the floor. That does suggest he might lose..........though I'm not sure it wouldn't be close.

****

On the voters themselves..........I think its still a bit difficult to tell. Certainly there are many would would say they don't support them or at least not against Canada.....but....

From last month's AP/Norc poll:

If only 44% of Republican Voters consider Canada a close ally...........that would mean 56% do not.

****

A collection of polls taken before the latest tariffs do suggest majority opposition to tariffs on Canada........ ~61% in one survey.

But break that down into Democrat/Independent/Republican......

A survey from Texas may be revelatory:

People learning that when you vote for someone on a single issue, you get the whole package....

All my investments are down. People are now losing money because of this idiot.

This "Trump crash" seems like it's going to be worst than the "Covid crash". The markets recovered fairly quickly in 2020, but this feels different.
I shorted (via options) last week. And bought some stock today. Finally, some reasonable PE on overheated tech/Mag 7.

I kept cash around since the election. I knew he was going to do something stupid. And he didn't disappoint.

That said, there's still a substantial chance he crashes it substantially more. Like 2008 GFC levels cause he doesn't understand how tariffs and reserve currencies work.

I say let it all play out.

Watch the markets tank. Watch inflation hit double digits.

With good enough timing we may see this run into the midterms

They are cutting taxes (increases deficit) and doing crazy things that will crash the economy (increases deficit). There will an absolute flood of bonds next year. Interest rates will skyrocket. Inflation will be contained. But there will be lots of pain next year.

Who would they consider a close ally if not Canada? 😆
