Supreme court chief justice Roberts says impeachment 'not an appropriate response' after Trump comment​

Chief justice of the supreme court John Roberts has issued a rare public statement after Donald Trump this morning suggested a federal judge who attempted to block his administration’s deportation of suspected Venezuelan gang members should be impeached.

Without referencing the president, Roberts said:

For more than two centuries, it has been established that impeachment is not an appropriate response to disagreement concerning a judicial decision. The normal appellate review process exists for that purpose.
Roberts is considered part of the court’s conservative bloc and has repeatedly joined rulings that Trump supports, perhaps most notably last year’s decision granting presidents immunity for official acts.

I wish Canada could/would deport all non-citizens convicted of Indictable Offences (excluding Summary Offences: Up to 2 years less a day in jail and up to a $5k fine.). I’m a citizen now, but if I’d stolen a car or assaulted someone beforehand, send my British-born ass back to London.

We have enough challenges with recidivism amongst Canadian citizen criminals. Figure out the legalities, send criminals born-abroad home or to renta-cells offshore.

When dissing Tesla is becoming a thought crime...


I detest Musk. But torching a Tesla to make a political statement isn't just "thought crime". It's political violence and terrorism.

If you thought Jan 6th was bad, you should be equally appalled against political violence now.

Protest the dealerships. Refuse service to every Tesla driver. Give them the finger. But your right to protest ends at violence and physical harm.

The thing is there are already laws in place that carry a stiff reckoning if the individual or individuals where caught. That would likely include vandalism and arson among other criminal charges....something that would carry long a record and jail sentencing I would imagine here. So anything more is really unnecessary at this juncture...

...unless of coarse, they want to set a political example of this, which is what is likely being done here. So they will be additionally charged for having animosity against a political leader and one of his biggest supporters...so that individual(s)' thoughts on the matter will be on trial, not just their actions. Which is something a lot more nastier for everyone, IMO.

And to be clear, I said "becoming a thought crime" and not that it already is. This is another is step in crossing that Rubicon, I'm afraid.

While certainly criminal, I don't think that arson of a vehicle rises to the level of terrorism. We don't want to set the precedent that any politically disfavoured criminal activity can be classified as terrorism and unreasonable penalties applied.

The flip side is criminal activity against, say, abortion clinics (firebombing, etc.) could be similar treated as terrorism in future.
