Meanwhile, on SNL (March 8, 2025), Mike Myers returned impersonating Elon Musk...

"Phase one of my plan is complete: ingratiate yourself to the president and take over the media. But, was taking this job a bad idea? A lot of people seem to really hate me, like, Tesla stock is really crashing, and my personal net worth just dropped by 100 billion dollars," Myers said, putting his pinky to his lips, mimicking an infamous move made by his iconic Austin Powers character, Dr. Evil.

The United States has been added to the CIVICUS Monitor Watchlist due to threats to civic freedoms. https://monitor.civicus.org/watchlist-march-2025/USA/

Also in today's news, a Palestinian activist was taken by ICE, and his student visa has been revoked. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-new...-plaza-mahmoud-khalil-arrested-ice-rcna195602.

From the article:
"The arrest seems to be a result of Trump's push to deport international students who protested against the war in Gaza.

Trump said Khalil's arrest was the first of many to come."

The key thing here is that it seems as if ICE showed up to detain and deport him, and revoking his student VISA in the process, but didn't realize he also had a green card (permanent resident status), which they then said they would be revoking as well. Green cards can only be revoked by immigration judges, effectively violating Khalil's first amendment rights.

Of course, there's civic backsliding in the US, so they can do essentially whatever they like without recourse, hence CIVICUS' downgrading of the US.

Unfortunately, the current regime doesn't care about the laws and who can legitimately revoke or award status or many other things. They just do whatever they want, and then ignore any judgments rendered or sanctions that may be imposed.

They can drop him at Guantanamo while he awaits his day in court is never heard from again.

...the crap that's going on down there currently in the US is quite frankly scary, to put that mildly. And I feel we're only getting the tip of the iceberg when it comes to reporting on it. It was pretty awful before Trump took over...but now they are clearly in sending people they don't like to special camps mode. This is something we should not forget or it will be at our peril, IMO. /bleh

Not much is being reported in the US by mainstream sources (except Fox and its orange spin) because they don’t want to lose their White House access. So people like me who go digging see so much, but the average person is unaware. I have spoken to many people who are quite surprised by some of the news that has been shared.
