To start off today’s insanity south of the border, Trump released an AI generated video to promote his plans for Gaza. https://www.axios.com/2025/02/26/trump-gaza-ai-video-israel-hamas-war (ETA: it's unclear who made the video since it does seem to take some digs at Trump -- bearded belly dancers?, but he shared it on his IG and Truth Social)

Meanwhile, a budget that will directly and negatively impact his voting base is moving through the system.

And Elon isn’t running DOGE, Amy Gleason is although I expect she found that out the same time everyone else did. (She was reached by reporters while vacationing in Mexico)

Since he's one of Trump's besties, I'll leave this here:

I canceled my subscription this morning. It's a bullshit statement for many reasons. First of all, those viewpoints are not "underserved". They are well served by all the major media outlets. And I am sure that the Post will continue to publish pieces that are not about free markets or personal liberties. Bezos just wants to make it clear that he will publish only viewpoints that further his personal business interests and will fire any editor or writer who tries to stand up to him.

Donald Trump says Mexico, Canada tariffs now set for April 2

From https://www.theglobeandmail.com/canada/article-tariffs-on-canada-mexico-moving-forward-but-theres-still-room-for/
U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday said stiff new tariffs on imports from Mexico and Canada would take effect on April 2, about a month later than an earlier deadline for the levies to take effect.

Trump’s remark came during his first cabinet meeting.

Earlier this month the administration had set March 4 as the effective date for 25% duties on goods from Mexico and non-energy goods from Canada.

The White House did not immediately respond to a request to elaborate on Trump’s comments.

Trump said Monday that the levies would be going forward on schedule – but his comments also cited other executive orders in his growing tariff agenda.

Canadian officials and premiers have been cycling through Washington in recent weeks in an attempt to find out what it would take to get Trump to abandon his tariff plans.

But it remains unclear what Trump wants as the president continues to complain about trade and call for Canada to become a U.S. state

Now for something completely different...

Apple to fix iPhone dictation glitch that suggests replacing the word ‘racist’ with ‘Trump’

From https://www.theglobeandmail.com/business/international-business/article-apple-to-fix-iphone-dictation-glitch-that-suggests-replacing-the-word/
Apple is fixing a bug within the dictation feature on some iPhones that briefly suggests the word “Trump” when a word with an R consonant is spoken, including “racist.”

The company is responding to the controversy after some iPhone owners posted videos on social media this week to detail how the glitch works.

When users activated the dictation feature and said the word “racist,” the word “Trump” appears in the text window before quickly being replaced by the correct word, according to various videos posted online.

“We are aware of an issue with the speech recognition model that powers Dictation and we are rolling out a fix today,” Apple said in a statement sent to The Associated Press on Wednesday.

The company said that the speech recognition models that power the voice-to-text feature might show words with some phonetic overlap.

It also said that other words that have an “r” consonant were also erroneously triggering the bug. The Associated Press could not duplicate the problem on Wednesday, a day after it emerged.

This week the company announced a plan to invest more than $500-billion and hire 20,000 people in the United States over the next four years as well as build a new factory in Texas, amid Trump’s threats to impose tariffs on imports. Separately, Apple shareholders rebuffed an attempt to pressure the company into joining Trump’s push to scrub corporate programs designed to diversify its workforce.

Would Elon Musk make a good Bond villain?

You mean, would Elon Musk make a good Hugo Drax, the villain of the cinematic version of Moonraker?

Consider — Elon Musk wants to create a global network of broadband satellites. Hugo Drax set up a global network of toxin-carrying satellites so he could wipe out humanity and then repopulate the planet with his master race.

Drax built and launched space shuttles for the U.S. Musk does rocket launches for the U.S. and commercial clients.

Their names even have similar rings to them — “Hugo Drax.” “Elon Musk.”
