People are nuts man - where in the suburbs can you get beautiful Victorian houses like those in Cabbagetown?
No one in their 20s wanted or valued that. Instead they saw Regent Park and the violence, drugs, etc. that go exaggerated on the news. My mates all wanted double car garages on wide lots.
I recently had the misfortune of driving along Derry Road/Rexdale Blvd from Mississauga all the way to Islington and I don't think I've ever been so disgusted in my life.
When we arrived in Canada in 1976 from the UK my parents bought a house at Derry Road and Winston Churchill. I still drive by it occasionally and well remember my brothers and I (and visiting cousins) playing cricket on the grassy patch when there no trees and just a stop sign, and lots of crashes.

I had some good times here in the 1970s and 80s. But yeah, I left Meadowjail in 1988 and never looked back.

EIFS is your best friend, man. Want a Cabbagetown house in Erin Mills, no probs! You can even build castles with it...

...wait, that's not what you where saying! >.<

It is 'interesting' how Trump and Ford both propose 'civic improvements' based on their own movements. Trump with homeless he sees while driving to the golf course and Ford with the bike lanes he sees!

Especially now a days when you have to put up with this nonsense in the burbs. I grew up mostly in the burbs and currently live in suburban hell. We didn't have to deal with this craziness back in the 80s/90s. Nor did we have street racing and people blasting stereos and drag racing and doing burn outs at the strip malls all hours of the night, People illegally dumping garbage in the parks and on the streets. Burbs back then were peaceful boring and dull and very clean.

Good for Mississauga stepping in and putting an end to this chaos.

I don't know about you, but I certainly remember the all the genos in the 90s gathering at Coffee Times with their cars, and doing a lot of that. I may have even done it.

Maybe not as bad as Ridgeway though.

For North York, way back in the day, like in the '60s and '70s, either the Harvey's south of Richmond Hill or the Golden Star north of Steeles were the place to be and been seen, particularly if you had a hot car. That or putting all the skills you just learned watching the stock car races at Pinecrest Pinecrest, once you pulled out onto Hwy 7.

Where does one go to be seen with a "hot" car these days??

Short of illegal activities, street racing, etc., many car clubs have regular informal 'meets' where they just hang out and show off their iron. I don't know about the GTA but the club in Orillia meets every Friday night in the summer; our local club in North Bay, every Tuesday. That's in addition to actual shows like Rosseau and Orillia. Some juried, some more informal.
