Haven't seen mine either. I will probably give half to a good cause and use the other half to go out for a nice dinner. Stimulate the local economy and all that.

I'm spending my $200 at a small independently owned restaurant. I sure as hell won't be spending it at a corporate chain.

I don't really dine at any corporate chains other than the ones that run food courts in the financial district (Oliver & Bonacini, the new CIBC food court, the Well, etc.)

In the same conference, the premier hinted that they will be reducing tolls on the 407...expect an annoucement soon...
To what end? Assuming this involves a provincial subsidy to the owners, what stops them from continuing to jack up tolls as the 407 fills up and becomes congested.

You ask this question as though you think this is serious transportation planning. It's all politics (like the $200 cheques and no plate fees) Doug could not care less if it helps commute times as long as it buys votes with somebody else's (our!!) money.

Possibly a contract. But we'll wait to see what details come out....he does not like tolled roads at all so it's unclear to what extent they will be lowered....

So the bizarro NYC congestion charge? We make driving on the highway free, to make what is now free-flowing traffic into a clone of the 401?

I use the 407 for work from time to time to drive to another work location. It takes me an hour to get there, using the 407. By 401 it would be pushing 1:40 or 2h (it's north of the city). So, my employer will no longer have the option of paying the toll to save ~2 hours of productive time...

This was the good thing about the 407--it gives users choice. Too many people seem to need an econ 101 course on supply and demand and price elasticity.

I know a number of people who have donated $200 to charities and causes -- including to Cycle Toronto
We already donate monthly to our hospital foundation so thinking maybe to local Humane Society.
Where's my friggin' cheque?? There are wild tights and booty shorts that need buying!
Jeez. Thanks. It's 11pm and now I'm going to have nightmares.

My adult kids in university have never worked (they’re busy volunteers, to their credit) do not drive or buy hydrocarbons and yet because they filed tax returns they’ve received hundreds of dollars from Trudeau in green rebates and now $200 from Ford. This is taxpayer money going to people who have never paid tax outside of the HST. The kids laugh whenever the Trudeau bucks arrive, and now Ford’s in on it too.

I don't understand why you insist on misunderstanding the carbon tax and rebate. Every consumer either directly or indirectly causes GHG emissions. Your children occupy buildings heated with fossil fuels, ride in vehicles powered by fossil fuels, eat food grown with fossil fuels, buy products transported with fossil fuels, using raw materials extracted with fossil fuels. Pricing those emissions causes those consumers to make different decisions about what they consume (or people decide on their behalf). And to offset the negative impact of the tax in aggregate, the proceeds are largely rebated to individuals. This also makes it less regressive (hitting lower income people disproportionately hard).

I don't understand
I’m okay with that. The kids are getting money, including now $200 from Ford that they didn’t earn. Yes, they’ve paid a little carbon tax as consumers of food, etc. but they’re getting back more than they paid, which I appreciate is the intent for all Canadians, but they cannot really reduce their carbon consumption regardless. I’d rather the federal and now provincial governments would stop giving us rebate cheques and instead fully fund our healthcare, education, infrastructure and other essential services. The colleges and universities are in crisis due to chronic underfunding, now exacerbated by the loss of international students. Our hospital wait times are growing. There is no money to be giving $200 to Ontarians.

No-holds barred look at the Ford government policies: a timely, new book ‘Against the People' chronicles the damage done to Ontario Stella Yeadon CUPE Communications 416-559-9300 syeadon@cupe.ca As Ontarians face an early election with Doug Ford playing the role of ‘Captain Canada' against the threat of U.S. tariffs, a timely new book Against the People takes a sharp lens to the Ontario Conservative government's actual public policies and shows that they pander to and enrich special interests, spawn inequality, and harm regular Ontarians. Against the People written by on-the-ground experts showcases how the policies of the Ford Progressive Conservatives have devastated the province across a wide range of public policy issues since coming to power in 2018: from health care, municipalities, education and access to justice, to economics, arts, labour, the environment, housing, child care and Indigenous lands. With Ontarians going to the polls this winter and before casting their ballots, Against the People offers essential insights on the record of the Ford government.

Doug is pretty easy going with tax $. He sure can give it away to his pet causes - beer, developers, cars, long term care for profit providers, etc. He is more clueless when it comes to the medical system, interprovincial trade etc.etc. I wonder if any taxpayer in Ontario actually realizes what is being funded by actual taxpayer $ and what is borrowed against the future, and do not forget to add in government organizations such as Hydro. But as long as Ontarian's do not seem to care about running continual deficits (and the polls seem to show this, the “I want what I want right now generation” does not seem to care and does not want to talk about it) his chances of repeating as Premier, advancing plans to tunnel under the 401, subsidize tolls on the 407 etc seem to be a real thing.
